New Zealand accent "most attractive" - BBC

Does any one know which American accents were on the list, as there are several based on regional differences..and sub accents as well....

so what was the "American" accent that came in 9th out of 34?

This. I would assume its the standard "TV newscaster" accent, but one would think the survey is utter bunk if they only included that.
Right. If they used Boston, we would have come in first; on the other hand, if they used Alabama, we would have come in last. :rommie:
If Loyd Grossman is anything to go by, Bostonian is certainly the funniest. :bolian:

Time for a brief primer...how is the NZ accent (in a nutshell) different from, say, the Aussie one? I always got the two confused.

I don't think they sound anything alike. New Zealanders sound more like South Africans than they do Aussies IMO.

it's definately a very sexy accent, one of my friends on X-box live has one :D but if your asking MY favorite accent, i'd have to say chinese

Hmm, I disagree on the New Zealand accent being hot. But then, it probably depends on what language they're speaking. To me, the Belgian accent is ultra hot, but when a Belgian tries to talk English, it just sounds strange.

Boston accents are like fingernails on a chalk board to me, which is a problem seeing as I live 20 miles outside of Boston.

I love French accents and Russian and Polish ones...

or maybe it's more like i love Ola Jordan and Lilya Kopulova's accents...

This is my preferred example of a Boston accent. Even though it's written. ;)
I'm not sure if they're trying to do Southie or Martha's Vineyard, but it's not quite right. :rommie: It should be more like "Bahstin rahks."

I'm a bit of an accent-phile and I think you have to draw a line between accents that are sexy and cool.

I find the city British accent ridiculously sexy. When I was single, I'd turn around and look every time I heard a girl speaking in a British accent. It's so CUTE!

However, I think the coolest accent around is the Australian. I think it'd be killer to have that one. It's also the one of the few that I've had trouble learning. "Mahk Weybba ees in seexth playce."

IMHO, the worst accent around is the Indian accent. I'll let Russell explain:

Personally, I'm Indian myself and after living in the US for 5 years I have this weird hybrid Indian-American accent which sort of helps.

Also just as an aside, I've used the Boston accent and New York accent on stage (and got compliments for their authenticity ;)). It was a lot of fun!

Maybe I should move to England. Never had much luck with kiwi women.

maybe cos we have similar sounding accents. :)

I think it would be the other way around. I think Southern accents are sexy. Even the redneck ones that aren't sexy are still easier to listen to than anything from Boston or New York. I can relate to Southern accents. I sometimes slip into one myself even though I've never lived in the South. A Southern accent is just being too lazy to enunciate certain sylables, whereas Boston & New York accents require extra effort and just make you sound like an idiot (except for those Kennedy Boston accents that make you sound like a rich, intellectual prick). Compared to Boston & New York, I think Philadelphia accents are just fine.

Thick western Canadian accents make you sound, to American ears, like a retard. "I come from Canada and they think I'm slow, eh?"

Listening to some samples of New Zealand accents, I'm not too enchanted. They just sound like watered-down Australian to me.

Australian is very sexy under the right circumstances.

Personally, I think of all the English speaking countries, Irish is the sexiest accent. Between those accents & all the redheads, I really need to take a trip sometime.

If we can count non-English accents, I like French & Russian.
