New York or Chicago Pizza?

New York or Chicago style pizza?

As someone who grew up in the Great Lakes area, 90 miles west of Chicago, my vote is for Chicago Style.

Anything outside of that area that is advertised as Chicago Style is merely a poor imitation.

At least you didn't include St. Louis style, which I was introduced to when I lived there. My wife described it as "tomato paste on a thin cracker". blech.

I did have St. Louis style pizza once. Blech indeed. I think I actually got sick from it.

When I'm in New York, I must have pizza. Failure to get New York style pizza is sacraledge. When I'm in Chicago I never get a craving for Chicago style pizza. If I have it, great, but I don't seek it out.

Favorite topping for me is sausage, mushrooms, onions and mozzarella di bufala cheese. Lose the onion if it's a date.

Not "American Pepperoni" (I had to add "American" since it clearly isn't actually Pepperoni ;) ).

USA =/= the world. :p
Sorry, we're the only country that matters. Haven't you figured that out yet? :p
In culinary sciences? Ha! I laugh at your puny tomatoes and inferior quality olive oil! ;)

Hey! Where do you think you got your tomatoes from? If it weren't for America, Pizza wouldn't exist.

Bah!
I deflect your sarcasm.
All the finest chef's in the world all have at least one restaurant in NYC alone.
Because that's the only place you can charge 50$ for a salad and people would think it's a great deal. ;)

Pepperoni is funny because in Italian it means (bell) peppers (well, actually peperoni with one "p", but the pronounce is very similar).

So beware of ordering "pizza pepperoni" in a restaurant in Italy! The first times, I was confused why bell peppers were so popular as pizza topping!

The closest equivalent to pepperoni is called salame piccante or salsiccia piccante in Italian. Normal Italian sausage is much less harmful as breath weapon...

You are absolutely right. Without tomatoes, we would have continued to make focaccia, which incidentally is also screaming delicious.

while I enjoy folding my pizza if the slice is large enough I still like my crust to be able to somewhat support the toppings . . . I've had thin pizzas that can only be eaten folded because they just flop all over the place :(

so I guess I'd fall on the thicker side of NY style . . . I don't like pizzas that resemble an actual pie, or require a fork to eat

Chicago pizza is certainly good, but it really is a different animal. When i think of pizza, it's New York style.

When you're near Chicago, eat Chicago, same for New York.

If you're not, find a good local chain and stay away from the shit you considered pizza as a child. We're grown-ups now. All is forgiven unless you still eat at Papa Domino Hut.
This.

I voted for Chicago out of loyalty, but I'll pretty much eat anything that calls itself a pizza.

Yeah, I know. I once ordered a pizza with peperoni in Italy because it amused me to see peppers instead of meat :D

Hmmm, good point. You win this round :p

Neither, I prefer it somewhere in between.

I am no pizza snob though, I will eat all pizzas and I actually prefer the chain pizzas unless I am making the pizza at home myself.

I only eat cheese pizza so toppings matter little to me, all I care about is yummy cheese and sauce.

Hard to argue with a purist!
