New Year's Resolutions 2012!

Is this an order,admiral sir?
Well.. if i can choose... with you, anything you want..but you'll have to come and pick me up with your ship.. my transporter is malfunctioning :p

New Year resolutions are bullshit. If you were really committed to changing things, you'd just start now.

True.

But if you're not really committed, they can potentially act as a prompt to move you from the pre-contemplation phase into contemplation if you believe in a transtheoretical model of change, so they're not always totally without use. Just 99% of the time. :D

That's mainly why my resolutions aren't serious. They're more "things I want to do next year" that will be easier to start after the holidays.

I agree for the most part. But I think it can work as reaffirming things you are already doing. I also have been someone who does things when I'm ready to and not a moment sooner, so picking a time can actually work for me.

There's no harm in a ritual if it leads to self-improvement.

And, by the same token, Christmas presents are bullshit. If you really want to give someone a present, you should do so at any time.

"What, no Christmas present?"
"Well, I gave you a gold bracelet last August because I love you."

I agree withe the giving gifts.. but still.. the children expect toys or any gift..

I love giving Xmas gifts to my wife, kids and grand-daughter. As for New Year's resolutions. None. I quit smoking years ago and I eat and drink pretty much anything I like so no worries there. I am already fit and intend on staying that way.

I love that people automatically jump to diet and exercise when it comes to resolutions. There are so many other things you can do!
