With digital sampling and recording, it's no doubt a lot quicker to assemble something like that than it would have been in analog format using razor blades and splicing tape, but there's more involved than just stringing words together. Unless a reliable, relatively inexpensive and expedient means of adjusting the inflection of individual words were found and used, it would still end up sounding a lot like a female version of Stephen Hawking's synthesized voice -- conspicuously artificial, and maybe even a little bit creepy in the long run for those familiar with Majel's voice. Legal issues aside, I think it would be much more practical and a better aesthetic choice simply to go with a new actor.Shouldn't there be enough audio records of Majel Barett to be able to create ANY computer reply imaginable? I mean she spoke the computer for like 500 episodes.
Possible, but does any one know what the cost would be to splice together something new like "Ship specifications: Name USS Guinevere, Registry 8-5-9-9-3, Class Excalibur, crew compliment 850, maximum speed warp 9.35."
