New version of Godfather 3 to hit theaters

Will there be a CGI Jabba The Hutt added in?

Oddly enough, my friend & I made the same joke back in 1997 when they were releasing remastered VHS tapes of the Godfather trilogy around the same time that George Lucas did the Star Wars Special Editions. We even came up with a whole dialogue scene where Vito Corleone & Jabba the Hutt had a conversation about what to do about Han Solo.

I am going to laugh my ass off if The Godfather Part III Director's Cut has Michael killed instead of Mary and Mary survives. Then Coppola makes The Godfather Part IV with Mary as the new protagonist. God, that would be so hilarious considering how much shit Sofia gets for her performance. I would legitimately sit through a three hour movie with Coppala playing a badass mob boss continuing the legacy her father was trying to legitimize. I really don't think her performance was that bad and with a few tweaks it would work really well as a sort of 'unassuming' mafia leader. Of course, that leads to wondering what the theme of such a film would be. Breaking free of the shadows of one's parents?

Well, ironically, this just got reported this week.. There's apparently going to be a "Making of the Godfather" scripted TV series and CBS All Access is going to get a rebrand/relaunch as "Paramount+"

New Godfather Series, etc..

Thankfully it's just a scripted series about the making of the first film; I'd hate to see them try to make a series set in that world and working with those characters.

Looks like Oscar Isaac as Coppola and Jake Gyllenhaal as Robert Evans. No word on whether anyone will be playing the stars (Billy Zane as Brando, I reckon): https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/n...s-and-the-godfather-alongside-jake-gyllenhaal

I still want Godfather 4 - split (like G2) between the unproduced script about young Vito and the bit between the end of G3 proper and Michael's passing in Sicily, starring Andy Garcia.

As far as Coppola is concerned, that train sailed when Puzo died in 1999, and I'd be reluctant to see anyone other than Coppola try to do anything with the property.

Yes, Me too.

But if they have Puzo's script....

They do, at least for the Vito part.

And there's room in the early 2000's segment for Pacino, as the death scene in GF3 was rather obviously years after the end of the main narrative.

So, we're receiving a "Snyder Cut" of Godfather III?
While my least favourite film of the trilogy, I still enjoyed it. Besides, the stuff I would remove would sadly make the film inoperable since it's fairly central to the character arc (i refer mainly to the incest subplot).

Although...maybe the romantic parts could be cut so the more platonic moments come to the fore?

I need to re-watch the film.

But the last hour of that film? It's fine.

Maybe Vincent as the new protagonist, but Sofia behind the camera. Let her do what she does best.

So did anyone watch this cut? To me it's very disappointing. It's probably a worse cut than the original and feels like a cash grab. Also..

Which is 'The Death of Michael Corleone' he doesn't even die in this cut!
Ok, I guess the death of his daughter is something of a symbolic death but....meh...

They do, at least for the Vito part.
I had not realized this until just recently but they actually released a novel based on that script.

I wouldn't mind seeing that. Part of me doesn't want it to be touched but it's too enticing.
