New Trek Series?

Normally, discussions on a new trek series belong in Future of Trek, but, since I don't think this has a shot of being a new series, I'll let it stay here :)

Let's get one thing clear. "Cardinal" is a fan-fic. Nothing more.

And horrible fan-fic at that. Did you see the ridiculous looking ship? :guffaw:

either you're deliberately advertising this junk,

Ding...ding...ding! We have a winner!

Considering this individual just registered to post this "news", I'd say they are involved with the project somehow.

The shared trait of being unable to manage even elementary school spelling, while not conclusive, certainly doesn't mitigate suspicion.

I must concur... that this is rather obviously a scam. If a Star Trek show ever airs with that ugly bird-faced ship in it, I'll have to reconsider my appreciation for Star Trek at that point.

thats a bit harsh. im still undecided. part of me says "any TV trek's better than no trek", "its gotta b better than enterprise" and he does make some pretty good points. the other part of me says "no chance, this is never gonna happen!" Thats why i wanted to do the interview, to find out more

I think I tend to agree with you there. There is a lot of crap on TV, especially since they all started with these stupid reality TV series. I'm glad that seems to be getting towards on end, or at least it's not as abundant as before. I'd rather watch Star Trek on TV more then anything else. Doctor Who is pretty decent at times, on digital cable the Game Show network as a couple of good things on.

See, this is why Trek is at a downfall now, because people nitpick it and criticize it as much as they can and I believe it is the reason why there is no Trek right now. This is also the very reason why I left this forum years ago, because all people did was criticize the franchise, and it just got old. If it starts up again, then I'm bound to leave once more :(

SLagonia- I recognised that name immediately and it took me a few minutes to work out where from - He's just guy who posts on St.com. In his profile it has a link to all the cardinal stuff. Its just more of the fan-whatsit-and-whatever.
This is, apparently its "official thread" on st.com: http://boards.startrek.com/community/messages.html?;act=ST;f=13;t=33302333

There was a mention in there about people wandering around trying to promote it as real trek.

edit: Ok, i've read some of the stuff on that thread.. Alot of them seem to be trying to pass it off as real trek! The premise/characters/everything else, is really weird...
Him/they/whoever, have gone out of their way to make the crew as freaky as possible, and for no apparent reason..

I've been reading their FAQ's on their website. They are seriously trying to promote this to CBS and even asking people to write in for them!

This is what happens when fanfilms go to far... Someone should really tell these guys to wake up and smell the coffee!

I don't see any evidence that this is or has been under active consideration by anyone at CBS who'd be in a position to make a difference.

A quick google doesn't seem to reveal much information about this "script writing experience he claims to have", the fact that he's unable to spell professional strikes me as odd (when claiming to be a professional scriptwriter)...

Which of course is very different from your own spelling of "Trek" in all lower case letters and your using incomplete sentences?

Try "Just some nobody trying to gain fame by riding on Trek's back."

Is English your first language? I suspect not.

Whatever the case, it appears you'd do best to not throw any stones from here on out; the house you live in is made of glass.

The thing looks like someone tore the legs off a crab and then stomped on it, shattering the shell evenly.

Notice the "SS"?

What happened to "USS"?

For someone to try to do a new Trek series, you'd expect they'd know the Trek universe already. Apparently not.

I'll throw as many as I like. There is a massive difference between the care and effort I take with web posts (half of which I write while mobile) and anything I put forward in a professional capacity.

In this situation, we are looking at material he is putting out in a "professional" capacity and it's entirely fair play to call him on it.

Hopefully none of the people who worked on "Enterprise" are working on this! One more series like that and Star Trek will expire! That will be a dark day, and I will be pissed. And that SS Cardinal ship pic looks like a run over thanksgiving turkey.

Cardinal is a pansy name for a series, and I assume that it's the name of the vessel.. and like I said.. that's just pansy.

A big question is: Would it be set in the 2380s, or afterward?
I don't think so.

Exactly. It's possible for Star Trek to be so hideously damaged that it will become radioactive to both the audience and to the suits who have to be the ones to greenlight millions of dollars in funding for it. The situation is not that bad at this point, but it's possible that it could get that bad, and allowing fanboy bullshit like this Cardinal nonsense is just the way to kill Trek dead.

Star Trek has been mismanaged for years now. The solution is to manage it well, not destroy it utterly.
I think its already too late for that, IMO.

It's not too late simply because the vast majority of potential moviegoers and TV watchers have no opinion at all of Star Trek. It's waiting to be shaped.

If there's another TV series in the future, it will key off the success of Trek XI. If Trek XI isn't a success, there won't be a TV series anyway, so whatever series we get will be JJ Abrams baby, and most likely part of a larger plan to revitalize Star Trek.

Don't underestimate the drawing power of the Star Trek name (for the suits who hold the pursestrings). Hollywood is now more convinced than ever that franchises are the way to go and you might have noticed that they love resurrecting old TV shows. Star Trek combines two powerful trends in one. It will get all the money and corporate attention it needs in order to be a success. Other than that, it will be up to Abrams, Orci, Kurtzman, et al, not to fall on their faces, but I have a feeling they won't.
