New TOS scout

Klondike307

Lieutenant Commander
Red Shirt
It's good to be back after a couple months with no time to model anything new. I finally got a bit of free time last night and came up with this small TOS scout. I still have to model the docking hatches on either side of the saucer and the impulse engines. Texture wise, i still have a long way to go. Sorry for the low quality picture. I usually export it from bryce as a photoshop document, but since my photoshop is not working, I had to export a jpg. As always I welcome and critizism or ideas. More to come!

Gah! Just when I was pondering how to do a nice ship in the 20 crewman range! I like the basic form you have worked out. Is there going to be a visible bridge deck or are you going to do some kind of detail on that central fuselage to delineate the location?

Was it your intent for it to look a lot like the Archer class from the Vanguard book series?

In his defense it may be the case that he has never read those books or seen that particular ship configuration. I know that I don't go to websites and things too often and people will comment on one of my sketches and say well this ship looks like such-and-such by this person and so forth.

In the end there are really only so many useful ways you can shove a saucer, hull and warp nacelles together I suppose.

:)

No, i hadn't seen that ship when I made this last night. I saw it today and can see the similarities

The bridge is inside the main saucer deck between the phasers. When I get photoshop working again, I'll do a deck by deck cross-section.

I wonder if the bridge dome might still protrude above the top of the hull? That might be a nice touch, or it might not.

Great work, though.

There was someone who made this little model called the USS-York which was kind of like a "Cutter" ship and it was similar to this.

It only had one engine and had the nav-deflector/sensor-dish at the front of the lower saucer.
