New To Voyager

That was fluffed up.

Buffy wasn't the key.

Even if they did have the same blood, the key is billions of years old.

Of course if it was just a question of Summers Blood, why didn't they dig up Joyce?

They just brought Joyce back with magic for a while.

That doesn't necessarily mean that the original body left her grave.

Did it?

Maybe because Buffy and Dawn are supernatural and Joyce was human? Might be a case of needing magical blood.

If Mommy was a Vampire, sure.

Mommy was not a vampire.

But they could hear her walking to the store.

They knew she was coming.

They then chickened out, & broke the spell.

Reversing the resurrection and redeadening her.

Was Mrs Summers deanimated corpse laying on the pavement out side the magic shop?

Or did Joyce about turn and go back to her grave that I highly doubt she would have filed in behind her.

Actually, leave Joyce alone.

Their dad as a ####ing waste of flesh.

Bleed him out, why not?

And the way he just totally ignores that Joyce is dead and lets Buffy raise Dawn? Geez. Oh I think there was some initial handwaving about not being able to contact him, but what kind of dad deliberately removes himself from all contact?

According to Buffy, at the time of Joyce's death, he was in some foreign country with his secretary.

To answer your question, he was a dead-beat dad.

They didn't want to explain monsters to Hank or risk Hank taking Dawn away, and that was before they were aware that Glory would have killed daddy Summers. Wait Buffy was dead for months! henry should have claimed his daughter, and Glory was dead so "no big".

Nonpresent doesn't mean deadbeat.

Buffy got a job flipping burgers, but if Hank was a real man, he would have kept giving Buffy Joyce's alimony to look after Dawn.

Unless?

Oh no.

Had Joyce been paying Hank Alimony?

The tone of voice in which Buffy said that he was with his secretary when Giles asked came off as very bitter, like he wasn't involved in his daughters lives.

And he's not really her daughter.

She's a key.

Is it possible that they have never met?

...

Hank was working hard.

As long as a decent portion of that money was going to Dawn's up keep he was not a dead beat just absent.

As long as he paid the bills he was not a dead beat.

(Deadbeat is a money thing. Are hugs at night really better than an extra 2 grand a month child support?)

Emotionally he was distant, and Henry didn't keep promises, but do we really think Joyce's Art Gallery made enough money to keep two girls fed?

Actually?

Would the money spent to raise Dawn have vanished from Hank and Joyce's bank accounts when the monks cast their spells? Because the Allowance for child care would have doubled in their divorce settlement which would have been some where between annoying to crippling for Hank when the memory spell took effect.

Kids don't know or care where the money comes from, even if you show them elaborate accounts. They DO know when someone cares so little about them they don't have time to see them.

I bet the monks gave Hank a much better job when they planted Dawn so that the child support was super big. They were very caring like that.

They had met. Dawn was completely a part of Buffy's childhood. Also, my dad paid child support to my mom and barely saw me. Now he has nothing whatsoever to do with me. It would have been nice if he could have been there emotionally as well. Just because you pay money, doesn't make you a parent.

But had he met in OUR reality, our pre-Dawn shock reality?

And yes totally agree. I hear in the US you go to jail if you don't pay Child Support so this is hardly a sign of love.
