Pretty good aside from some cheesy dialogue. Looking forward to the rest of this series and hoping it doesn't get canned like SymBionic Titan.

Yeah, I do agree about there being some cheesy dialouge, but other than that I loved it. I've been wanting another good action animated series, and this gave me exactly what I want. I only saw most of an episode of the original for the first this weekend so I really can't compare the two.
Anyone ever watch Regular Show? I kept thinking "Thunder-Cats! OOOoooOOOOOooooOO!"
Pure #$!@. [Fri]ck this reboot. It's not even a reboot. It's a continuation of the Thundercats cartoon. Same Mum'Ra, but on New Thundera (it reformed in the last season of the original cartoon). Why is Grun evil and only has 1 tusk? Does evil and accidents that cause you to loose a tusk just run in the family?
Wily Kit and Wily Kat are boring. Common thieves. The music is lackluster and Lion'O is a bad@$$, already. I like going from weak to strong. It makes better character development. I mean, they just gave him the sword and he defeated Mum'Ra, already!

It's a reboot not a continuation.
I don't know about that. There were a few lines that seem to indicate it is a continuation, that it's all happened before.
I was surprised how quickly Claudus was killed. I'm hoping he'll be like Jaga in this series, the ghost/image that keeps popping up.
I loved pretty much every second of it, especially the nods to the original series ... Hearing Larry Kenny's Claudus giving the "Thunder, Thunder, Thunder, ThunderCats Ho!" line made me squee for sure.
The animation is beautiful. Snarf, I'm liking the new version.
I'm happy they gave Kat and Kit such a different backstory. And Cheetara is now a cleric ... I wonder if they are going to give some of Tigra's mind powers to Cheetara in this version?
I have to admit, after Mumm-Ra showed up, I did get a bit of "Time begins, and then time ends, and then time begins once again" from Lexx.
Speaking of Mumm-Ra ... Robin Downes pulls off a pretty decent version of the character. Always happy to have Babylon 5 actors pop up. Nice bonus.
It happened before since the first Thundercats defeated Mumm-Ra, but those proto-Thundercats weren't the ones from the original cartoon. This one in fact clearly contradicates the early cartoon in that 1) the stone in the sword belongs to Mumm-Ra and that there is another in his possession and that b) Mumm-ra is now vulnerable to sunlight.
It was pretty good except for Tygra. He's gone from a wise and compassionate character to a totally arrogant headstrong jerk. I hope they rectify the situation, because he's really unrecognizable from the original series. It's almost as if they reversed the character traits between Lion-O and him. Lion-O was always the one to rush in and not be totally calm in a situation which he then learned to do from the other Thundercats. Here he seems to already be mature.
Still, it was the first episode and I want to give the show a chance. I mean it doesn't have to be exactly like the original show. It just feels a little strange seeing Tygra be so unlikeable.

I really hated the artistic style, but the story wasn't that bad. It obviously has no links to the original series and is your typical "reimagination," but at least they're trying to explain things this time around. Like why the (no longer) Mutants hated the Thundercats so much, and why Mumm-Ra was such a prick.
The whole mysterious technology thing was goofy though, especially since the claw is clearly technological itself.
I really like what they did with Cheetara, however. Jaga looked kinda goofy running during the fight, but it was still interesting to see where they were going with the whole "Clerics of the Ground" or whatever it was.
One thing I'm confused about is where its supposed to go now. Did they really kill every single citizen with that one catapult shot? Are they going to be on the run, or are they going to try and rebuild the city? Did anyone else survive the attack, and if not how are they going to continue to survive with the vast armies out there who can easily get past their defenses with their magical "technology?"

Are Tygra and Cheetara in it?
It's a reboot, not a continuation...If you recall, in the old show, Lion-O time traveled back to Thundera and met Claudus, witnessed the destruction of the homeworld and his own exodus with Jaga and the others to Third Earth.
Here, their home is Third Earth, with Thundera being it's ruling kingdom. The no technology thing puts Panthro out of a job here, but in the old show, he was their Scotty, "miracle worker".
I enjoyed the new incarnation very much, though I don't think I care much for the version of Snarf-yes, he was annoying back in the day, but still, there was something endearing about the character that made him tolerable... Obviously, there must be a story behind how Tygra wound up as Claudus' son. Looking forward to finding out just how that happened.

Technology as in mechs/lasers/explosives. The claw was just a mystical gauntlet.
That can be debated. Listen to the dialogue, this in particular:
Tigra's father says to Lion-O, "The book told that it was the Thundercats, our ancestors, who first defeated Mumm-Ra. It was the Thundercats who brought law and order to a world of warring animals."
This is a summary of the entire original series. All the talk of technology is also a callback to the original series, as Mumm-Ra consistently criticized the Thundercats for their use of it.
In the beginning, they mention 3rd Earth. However, later at night there's a shot of the sky and you can clearly see 3 celestial bodies up there. 1 is definitely another planet that looks like Jupiter, while the other 2 look like moons. So they might not be on Thundera at all, in fact one of it's moons, but they can't be on Earth.

Mumm-Ra has been after that thing since the beginning of the original series. He also asserted himself over the ancient spirits of evil, by the time the original cartoon ended. That could be the reason sunlight bothers him, now, as they had removed his weakness to his own reflection. His vulnerability to sunlight might just be a side-effect of this.
No, it's been stated in interviews with the people in charge of the show that this is a reboot. They are on 3rd Earth now, and Thundera is the Cat Kingdom. As for the line about their ancestors from Claudus, I don't think that was intended as a reference to the original, it was just some exposition.
