How I long for the day when Trek used to be the hobby of the Tolerant ..not the Intolerant.

Don't I know it, Dave. I mean, the movie is about a LEGAL immigrant who is unfairly scape goated. But for some reason people want to talk about how much they hate illegal aliens. I think hating illegal aliens is a politically correct way to say you hate all immigrants. If you can't tell the difference in this movie then you don't make the distinction anywhere else in your life. It makes the cartoon all too relevant.

I wish to apologize to those I seemed to have offended by my statements. I have rewatched the film and yes I was overly emotional in my response. The portrayal of the characters was funny. Now do I still have issues with certain aspects of the immigrant versus alien issue, yes I do. As far as I know this country doesn't go around deporting people who have applied for and gained citizenship. Those who cannot see that we in this country have a serious issue with illegal immigration, in my humble opinion are blind to a major problem, one of both finances and security. Please don't think I hate all people who emigrate to this country, I am a first generation American, my grand parents and my mother arrived in this country in 1950. But they did it thru the right channels, my Russian Grandfather and Estonian Gandmother, both learned english and worked hard for everything. My major gripe is an issue I see everyday living in Florida, 10-20 primarily hispanic men standing outside the local 7-11s, (most of which do not speak any english and many who make themselves scarce when any law enforcement are near) waiting for some under the table construction manager to pick some of them up to work for pennies a day. This is wrong all the way around. First, yes the Construction companies are wrong for exploiting these people. But the majority of these men are here without documentation or even worse with stolen or forged papers and have no ambition to merge with the society around them. To the contrary they segregate themselves. Most of the money they earn is never spent here but sent to other countries. They work for far less than the Americans who have the same or greater skills in the jobs they are taking so the wages go down as does the available jobs for American citizens. They live in large groups in small houses or apartments so each man pays little in rent but have no respect for the property they rent or those who live around them and propery values go down. Our federal government turns a blind eye and actually procecutes border guards who detain these people. The local government hands are tied so law enforcement is forced to let the criminal element of this "community" go free because they risk the ire of some ethnic rights group sueing them for violating the rights of these people. We cater to them, by making every sign and document around us in Spanish (I am pretty sure my grandfather would have loved if the DMV had a Russian license application, or the local grocery store had signs in Russian). God forbid you say anything in earshot of an activist because you are branded a racist and bigot, or intolerant of other cultures. I have no problem with other cultures, IN OTHER COUNTRIES! The last time I looked I wasn't in a foriegn land. This country was once called the melting pot for a reason, we blended, made many cultures one, people from all over the world came and added to it, was there segregation amongst the various ethic peoples, sure there was but there was also a drive to become an American, to learn the language to establish one self in the community, they learned the language, went to school, took jobs became one culture. We now have to make sure to bow to the wishes of a minority because they refuse to acclimate to our society. I am sorry, but I have had to fight everyday to achieve what I have in my life no one handed it to me because of were I was from or because I spoke a different language. I am a little bitter, because I have to pay taxes, only to see the money given to someone who has no rights by our laws to it. I will stop now because this became a rant. Oh one more thing, the comment about the Pilgrims that was put out there makes me laugh, yes they were aliens, but there was not an established government for them to apply to to become citizens and as far as my history books state, the natives Americans and the pilgrims actually had friendly relationship. And I am sure there had to have been some Pilgrims that had to learn the native language to survive and communicate in the new world they moved to, or do you think the Native Americans went around putting English signs all over the woods for them.

I disagree. I like legal immigrants. I don't like illegal aliens. You break the law coming in, there is a good chance you'll break the law while you live here. It's bad enough already, we don't need anymore criminals.

P.S. The US will only deport legal immigrants if they habitually break the law. In fact I have seen many repeat offenders just given a slap on the wrist.

Locking this thread - it's clearly run out of artistic value. And Poopday Machine, if you don't have a relevant or constructive comment to make, don't bother posting - your last post is dangerously close to trolling in my book.

CLANG!
