I'm still working on Captain Kirk taking the center seat of the Legacy-Class
U.S.S. Exeter in 2381. The story/series has been designated:
"Star Trek: Exeter"
(
"The Children Of Heaven").
A continuation of the story about the
"Chalchaj 'qmey" which means
"Children Of Heaven" in Klingon from William Shatner's Trek Literature series.
James is older, wiser, a widower, a little achier & finds himself at the end of the road. Much to his chagrin, he finds himself in a Federation teetering on the precipice of political disaster. Generally direction-less, even
He doesn't know what he can do to help. The Dominion War & The Borg have certain founding charter members considering secession from the United Federation of Planets & perhaps realigning themselves as independants or rivals. Some have already begun discussions with the Romulans, Cardassian Union, and The Klingon Empire. Unless something spectacular convinces them all to stay, Starfleet's days are numbered.
[*] Kirk's friends have died or found themselves on quests of their own.
[*] A former fighter-pilot & Strategic Command Liaison Officer during the Alpha Quadrant Alliance, & prodigy of Commander Worf's from Kirk's adopted homeworld of Chal, (from Worf's time spent as C.O. of the
U.S.S. Typhon from
"Star Trek: Invasion",) has since been promoted to the
Exeter as it's First Officer.
