New Simpsons tonight

^Well, the idea of Springfield Elementary hiding its poor students away to look better has been done more than once over the years. Wasn't there one where Skinner promised Bart and the bullies racing bikes in order to lure them down to the boiler room and lock them in there prior to an inspection? So it's far more likely that Family Guy was copying The Simpsons. In fact, as I understand it, it's pretty much a safe bet that anything in Family Guy was copied from some other source.

They also were keeping Cletus's kids out of the school to stop them from losing funding. Lisa takes the kids and tutors them and they become a musical fad on Krusty for a bit.

^There was also the episode where Lisa gets an A+++ on a test because she cheated on the test. This grade pushes the school's average grade up to the point where they qualify for a grant.

This was an alright episode, one of the better recent ones I've seen. It's weird to watch this show in widescreen, and with last night's inclusion of cel-shaded CGI.

Still, I laughed hardest at the montage of Homer getting hurt - and more because I was remembering a lot of those times from far better episodes.

^ I was thinking as that was going on that they could have done a full episode of just Homer getting hurt.

But how could they show a montage of Homer injuries and not show the archetype, his fall down Springfield Gorge from "Bart the Daredevil"? Maybe the animation is too crude by current Simpsons standards?

Having a montage of clips that early in the episode wasn't a great idea anyway, because it made me afraid the whole episode would turn out to be a clip show.

I really like the new opening, it's good to see so many of the characters/

And in addition to the chalkboard and couch gags there's also a new "Billboard gag" every week.

Last week the billboard in front of the school was about Krusty doing funerals while this week it was asking if we've seen Milhouse.

That Nascar delay pissed me off to no end. I specifically got a bath so I'd get out at 8 for the show, then gave my GF careful timing instructions to cook a frozen pizza so it'd be ready right at 8... and the show got delayed for 40 minutes! :p

I didn't realize that. I'll have to pay more attention.

Which scene was that?

It's funny, I took notice of both billboards but it wasn't until I read Squiggy's post that it clicked for me that they were different.

Probably because that bit has already been used in a dozen other clip episodes. There was even a clip show a few years ago in which we saw the beginning of Homer sailing across the gorge when Lisa interrupted to say something like, "No Dad! Everyone's tired of that flashback!"

it wasn't the plot so much as the clip flashback, and the 80's musical/dance number, sorry, but that just didn't fit right for a simpsons episode

^ That was the couch gag, the storyline involved standardized testing and the school sending the lowest achievers away. Family Guy did a similar episode where to save the schools funding Chris Griffin was expelled and Lois' father was used to get him into his alma mater: Morningwood Academy (where Chris joined the Skull & Bones Society).

Ah Thank you I don't watch Family guy that much, as much as I like crude humour, I sometimes can't stand F.G.

And some of those 'injuries' were from the Halloween episodes.
Still it was a good episode.

Yeah but that didnt matter. Adding the Halloween clips keep to the discontinuity of the show. Even though the Halloween eps are out of continuity. This has never been about tight continuity.

Homer has even mentioned in another episode how he screwed up many things and one thing he mentioned was lisas wedding in the future.
