New series: Enterprise-B or -C?

Actually we saw the 'decent' Ambassador class onscreen as well. There was a model of it (along with the other Enterprises) on the briefing room wall in TNG's first few years.

Well, there's only one...the one we saw on the screen. ;)

There may be multiple Ambassador Class Cruiser designs, but only one in starfleet records (that which participated in the Battle of Narendra III).

Well, there's only one Ambassador Class Starship we know about; one we saw on the screen (in "Yesterday's Enterprise"; the Enterprise-C).

That's better.

It also depicted the Enterprise B as a normal Excelsior class and the Enterprise A's nacelles at a very peculiar placement, the production staff have said they're meant to be "abstract". I mean the model of the Enterprise D is pretty 'melty' and poorly proportioned...for the ship it's on, these bloody 24th century sculptors.

Actually why are they even using them, why not replicate solid gold perfect models?

Probably more than one as the model on the Enterprise-D Observation Lounge more closely resembles the one pictured above.

Perhaps one or more of those ships received extensive refits at some point, which changed their appearance.

I mean, it happened with the original 1701, why not them?

I think someone would have mentioned that. Tne Enterprise B was deliberately altered because they were getting bored of the "overused" Excelsior class, I don't think they'd have a Defit to make her look like one.

And the Enterprise C looked like the one we know to be in operation in the 2360's the day she was destroyed in 2344, so why would the entire class have been Defitted to look much clunkier, smaller and less advanced than the concept version?

In DS9 there are LCARS displays showing the Ambassador class, all of them the Enterprise C version.

I thought they did the additions so they wouldn't mess up the base model, which they were still using?

Yes, but we never saw that ship in action. It may simply be an "artist's discretion" thing where he changed certain aspects to enhance asthetic appeal. It is also possible, (as said on the Star Trek Excalibur website) that after the Enterprise-C was destroyed, there was an Ambassador refit. It created a larger shuttlebay, larger nacelles, and an enhanced main navigational deflector dish.

(Anyone noticed I started listing my name?)

I imagine it's possible that the hull extensions were removed after Generations. The ship was clearly in need of major repairs after going through the Nexus.

I'd appreciate it if you knocked off this annoying habit you've started of "correcting" people's posts (people who have been here far longer than you have, newbie.) You probably think you're being cute, but its not. I've reported this to the mods. DO NOT CORRECT MY POSTS.

Actually, the only reason the Ent-B looked any different from a stock Excelsior was because they didn't want to damage the physical model which was, at the time, still being used. So the added bits were placed onto the secondary hull, so battle damage could be added without affecting the 'original' ship.
