My first thought upon reading this announcement is the one that any rational human being should have had-- "BLASPHEMY!! OFF WITH THEIR HEADS!!" :scream:;)

But then I read this...

Happiness is a Warm Blanket, Charlie Brown is written by original creator Charles M. Schulz and adapted by Craig Schulz and Stephan Pastis...

Stephan Pastis? Of Pearls Before Swine? My "Blasphemy" instantly turned into a "Hell, Yeah!" :techman:

Announcements at Newsarama and CBR (with preview pages).

They're going for a "darker, grittier" approach in the Peanuts reboot.

The mention of a "Snoopy Flying Ace" film in the Craig Schulz interview has me intrigued -- and hopeful. If it's anything like the video game... :)

I've read BOOM!'s press release announcing the Happiness graphic novel. The mention in the PR of the comic books produced by Dell in the 1960s has me curious. Could kaboom! be planning reprints of those old comics? That would be fantastic, honestly. :)

Not according to Craig Schultz...

"Every month or so, there will be a new producer who'll come up to Santa Rosa from L.A. with an idea for a new 'Peanuts' — with new themes, with the edginess that's out there in animation now. We get that constantly. But the family is really resolved that we're sticking with my dad's work."

You do realize he was joking, right?

Watterson once joked that if he'd known how big truck decals of Calvin pissing on a Chevy logo were going to be he'd have cut himself in on that merchandising action.

I've always kind of thought that Red and Rover were a pretty "not-so-blatent" C and H knockoff..

Red and Rover

True, the dog is a real dog and the hijinx are no where near as mad cap, but still...

I dunno, the cast and setting is a little similar but the tone and humor are very different. Red and Rover is driven by nostalgia, Calvin and Hobbes by the kid's id...

Stephan Pastis (who is fantastically creative), has been a member of 'the family' for a long time. He's helped Craig Schultz review media tie-in requests for years. So, he's not new to the Peanuts group at all.

When I posted this originally from my work computer, the image that Dennis posted was blocked, so I really wasn't sure. LOL! :guffaw:

I picked up Yungbluth's first 48-page Weapon Brown at DragonCon in 2008...it's just so damned wrong that I love it.

EDIT: After taking a good long squint at it, I'm afraid the particular image originally displayed in this post may have inadvertently violated TrekBBS policy. All of Yungbluth's work can be found at his site, which you can locate by Googling "Jason Yungbluth" and "deep fried."

See, now I'm just confused. I mean, I know it's the Little Red Haired *ahem* Girl, but she's holding the football like Lucy. Conflict!

I know, that's a bit confusing.

Lucy plays rather an, ahem, different role in Good Ol' Chuck's post-apocalyptic life. And her brother? Kee-rist!
