New Panoramas Photos (Ripped off the site)

Is it just me, or is does the bridge on Red Alert seem really strange being so well lit? Is there a reason the lights always dropped in the movies and later series during alerts?

Excellent!

I like the fact that the bridge looks better as a free standing set without the actors etc. It looks more like a Trek bridge as an image rather than on film.

That said, all the new stuff has grown on me, its looking great.

Cool though, we finally get to see the controls and functions up close, especially the throne. :techman:

I've loved the bridge since the first photo showed up of Kirk sitting in the chair and Spock in the close up shot came out a few months ago. I like how modern it looks, the tactical displays or whatever they are pretty cool looking. Not really sure what those joystick like things are on the command chair's right but whatever. I really would like in the next few months for their to be tech specs released on this ship...but I guess I can only dream of that.

The lights dimmed during Alerts in the previous movies/series to make it seem more dramatic, and submarine like for Wrath of Kahn due to the director's influence with submarine films.

People may say about how the alert bridges are not well lit, but all the computer displays are lit, and the stairs have lights, and there are some spotlights to aid in finding your orientation, so I am not sure it is such a big problem.

I would lose the small circular lights. Other than that, I really like the bridge. I think the Kelvin bridge may be cooler though.

The underlying design is pretty good, and the shots of it with all those makeup mirror lights out really improve it. I suspect the original design was clean, sleek, and functional, but then someone else came in and junked it up with too many lights and lots of gizmos (like the barcode scanners). Even the two freestanding podiums look like an afterthought.

Apparently the inability to see clearly improves one's performance.

Actually, the red light keep your eyes dark-adapted, so if the lights started flickering or going out (as they tend to do if you're in a situation that calls for a red alert), the crew won't be as disoriented because their eyes were already adjusted.

Red light works better maintaining Night Vision. A lot of Fighter cockpits use it and some vehicles (like my Pontiac Aztek) do so also.
I think the low light would help reducing the enviromental distraction so you ,ostly just see the read outs.
