New or Old Klingons?

I love the old Klingons myself in preference to what I call The Turtlehead Klingons! I took to the new klingons in the Motion Picture, maybe because Mark Lenard was their leader which kind of validated their new look but after watching TNG/DS9 and VOY I see them more as a race of one dimensional warrior types who continually cry out about honour and death and all that! The klingons like Kor and Kang were like a formidable enemy, crafty and aggressive without the symbolic chants of blood letting! Plus they looked pretty ferocious and Asiatic Mongol types rather than latex baldies in conquistador trousers!
What do the rest of you guys think?

I don't really care for the turtlehead Klingons. I prefer the slick haired, Fu-Manchu mustached Klingons.

And, yes, I do agree the later Berman-era has them constantly talking about war, honor, death, blood, songs of war, etc....which does make them one-dimensional and kinda boring.

I prefer the original Klingons. Shocking as I'm a fan of TOS first and foremost. But I really loved the look JJ Abrams gave them in Star Trek Into Darkness.

I haven't seen that yet, and with all the hate it has going for it it might be a while before I get around to it!

What do they look like,Bill?

Why? Its just a movie. I survived seeing Insurrection and Nemesis in theaters. They didn't cause my eyes to fall out or erectile dysfunction.

Calling the bumpy-forehead Klingons which came along in 1979 "new" is funny. I thought this was about their new look in Into Darkness (which I thought was a fantastic movie, btw)

This is one of the new Klingons unmasked, minus the piercing blue eyes which were added in post-production.

And here is Klingon evolution:

I always thought the Berman-era Klingons looked like Heavy-Metal hair band rejects.

Helmets? Klingons with helmets! The new types are still similar to the turtlehead look but until I do get to see it I'll pass on a comment!
Which is the best DVD to get by the way? I don't have BluRay so DVD it has to be!

Well, take away Jon Colicos and Michearl Ansara's acting as Kor and Kang...the TOS Klingons were for the most part just generic baddies.

Of course, the TNG/DS9/VOY Era Klingons showed up a LOT more than TOS' did which probably added to the image of them as 1-D. If the TOS Klingons showed up as much as the Berman Era ones did and acted like Generic thugs in all of them, they'd be seen as 1-D thugs by most of us now too.

TNG and DS9's Cardassians are more like TOS Klingons in their variety and complexity. Even their motivation for conquest is similar. Mara didn't gas on about on honor in "Day of the Dove," she admitted to Klingon desperation: "There are poor planets in the Klingon systems." Sounds a lot like what Madred and Picard said "Chain of Command."

Even The Original Series Klingons were rather 1 Dimensional, to me. All they cared about was conquering planets and turning them into forced labour camps. What made them interesting was the actors playing them, the way they voiced them, their mannerisms. But as far as what they said and did, they were all pretty one note and interchangeable with eachother.

I prefer THE MOTION PICTURE Klingon look to all the rest. I know alot of people felt that having the same foreheads denoting the Klingon look was kind of cartoonish, but I don't know about that. Much like a species of animal has all the same markings as the rest of its kind, I felt it was realistic. And the same way Vulcans all have pointed ears and upward slanting eyebrows, there's not a lot of variation in that, nor should there be. I like having a signature look of one species, so they're easily recogniseable. Michael Westmore's Klingons and other latex headed aliens all ended up looking more or less related to me.

My favorite touch of old school among the newer was Ch'Pok, the Klingon Advocate in the Deep Space Nine episode, "Rules Of Engagement". The return of the Wily Klingon, waging war with words and psychology.

The newest ones have a great look. Kind of the best of both. Their armor/uniforms aren't too bulky and cheap looking, but they still look badass.

Kang is still my favorite of all time. He just had so much presence that I thought of him as a formidable commander, but also like he could beat anyone who tried to challenge him.
