New Netflix Series: "Terminator Zero"

Why it's so brutal? So much gore, wasn't ready for that...
Yeah.... I'm not 100% sure about that either. I haven't seen a single episode of The Boys, because the trailers gave me the same thing that made me stop watching GoT; gore and sex for the sake of getting attention, and losing plot and character because of it.
I was pretty, and still am, pretty stoked for this show. But the amount of gore is a bit OTT alright.
Oof, I feel the same way. I was interested in this film because of the cast and was patiently waiting for plot details, but the excessive gore might be too much for me as well.

As for whether the franchise has anything more to say, I'm one of the few people who enjoyed Dark Fate (but I also wonder if that was mostly because of Linda Hamilton) and I was disappointed it didn't do well, therefore dooming any chance for continuation.

I'm still open to the idea of story potential with the right writer, etc., which is why I was willing to give this series a shot. But, again, the excessive gore is a big turn-off. I'll wait and see if the reviews suggest there's any sense of originality going on before I decide if I'm willing to try and push through the gore.

With the excellent TV show, they had to keep expanding on the paradigm, they told the dumb stories, and then had another 20 hours to write up, but with movies, it's one shitty idea, that won't last close to two hours with out parsing in a few big rig high speed chases.

I kind of wish Salvation had been more of a success because I think at this point I'd be more interested in exploring more of the post-Judgement Day future than just repeating the a Terminator comes back to the present to assassinate someone plot that every movie in the franchise has used. There's really only so many variations you can do on that same plot before it starts to feel repetitive.

Yeah, exactly. They need to push beyond that, otherwise I feel the franchise has no hope. Like for instance, I'd like to see more of the future as seen in the first Terminator movie. I'm talking more about the artistic vision that we haven't seen much of. Set it further into the future where Judgement Day isn't going to cause an issue. They need to start becoming more creative at creating new scenarios, like for instance, what if there's a version of their future where Judgement Day never happened?

Getting to see the future war was one of the most exciting aspects of the franchise. It has so much potential. They should just go hard into it, bring back Christian Bale. Pretend that muck that was Salvation never happened.

This anime lacks realism even by anime standarts .
I guess this is why they do Manga first in Japan, and than anime.

Also too many cliche moments taken from the movies, it's clear they didn't came up with a comprehensive story befor turning it in to an anime. Not sure why they greenlighted it in this state.

Now i am worried about Lord of the Rings anime adaption.

I'm two eps in and still not sure if I like it or not. I think my only reaction is that I don't outright hate it so far? Which is definitely not the same as liking it. ;)

That's an overgeneralization. There are plenty of anime series not based on manga, notable ones including Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo, most of the Gundam franchise, Neon Genesis Evangelion, Code Geass, Serial Experiments Lain, Tiger & Bunny, Kill la Kill, etc. And there are a number based on ight novels instead of manga, such as The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya and Sword Art Online, and a fair number adapted from computer games, like Pokemon and Digimon.

Personally, I wish the franchise would finally move on to what happens after the Skynet War ends. Humanity starting to pull together and rebuild, all the while still having to deal with remnant autonomous Terminators effectively acting as terrorists. Are there human factions who try to co-opt Terminators in some way? Do some of those Terminators evolve some sort of society on their own? Etc.

I still think there's more than enough story to be told during the war. They (each version of the "they") just don't seem to want to do it.

Yeah, Judgment Day was both a blessing and a curse. Yes, it's a good movie, but its success has also made it prone to having its moments revisited again and again, with the franchise seemingly unable to move forward. In this respect, the franchise has been a victim of its own success.

I liked the series.. was a bit klunky at first but did enjoy it. Left room for a 2nd season and i hope it gets it.
Better than the last few movies.

If you want more stuff in a future war.. hope for a season 2

I'm really struggling to finish this myself. I'm halfway through and if it weren't Terminator I'd have given up by now. I really hope the last four eps are better but I'm guessing this one just isn't for me.

EDIT: I finally finished the whole season. ...That's my entire review.

This really didn't need to be a full 8 episode series. It would have worked the same as a series of eight 5 minute shorts since most of the episodes are slow and far longer than they need to be. There's not enough going on. Feels like just filling it's quota.
The second to last episode was probably the most interesting of all, if only because it started to reveal some of the mysteries behind certain characters.

I'm just guessing...

A foreign company bought the animation rights, and then made a show.

The producers were not invested, and the 20 million viewers in Japan that might watch it and then buy some bubble tea cola in response to advertising, had no experience with the subject either.

Noobz from start to finish.

But then it's not like you yanks can do any better...
