New Myriad Universe exerpts and and interview on the net

While doing my morning net surfing just now, I found some new Miyriad Universe stuff on two different websites. First off is an excerpt from the Chimes at Midnight, Georff Trowbridge's TOS era story from the second book, Echoes and Refractions. Then, Trekmovie.com also has a new feature on Christopher L. Bennett's Voyager story Places of Exile, from the other book, Infinity's Prism. The feature includes a description, an interview with Chris, and an exerpt. I haven't actually read either of the excerpts yet, so I can't comment yet, but I will as soon as I'm done with them.

TrekMovie is doing a regular thing over the next few weeks with MyrU. Each week, Father Robert Lyons is doing a review, an interview, and an excerpt from one of the novels. They've already done Bill's A Less Perfect Union and this week was Christopher's Places of Exile.

Last night, I replied to Rob's interview questions on A Gutted World, which presumably will show up on TrekMovie in three weeks or so.

Sweet, will they be doing stuff for each story then? Because so far the first two features have been pretty cool.

Sweet.
Well, I read both exerpts now, and I really liked them both. They both seem like they will be taking things in a very interesting direction. I've always really enjoyed alternate universe stories, and so far it seems like the authors are doing some really good stuff with the universes they are setting up.

I do have one quick question though, how much time does Places of Exile cover? Because the excerpt seemed to be setting up a story that could possibly cover years.

The interview does say "Bennett packs in several years worth of storytelling".

I read all 3 excerpts and I like what I've read of the different stories. I Defintely plan:techman: to order these books soon.

I was looking forward to getting these before. Now I really want them. This is great stuff and it's interesting to see what direction each writer has chosen. Some interesting developments.

Having just finished the final pages of the second MyrU installment, I can say that you're in for a treat! The next few months promise to be literary heaven for Trek Book fans. I, for one, certainly hope that MyrU 1 and 2 does enough business to inspire a MyrU 3 and 4...

As adeadbeat who usually buys his ST novels 2cnd hand let me assure you that I will do my part to add to the business end-I'm gonna haunt Borders untill they get it in.

^ There's really nothing more annoying than a poltergeist in a book store/library. Well, maybe a pharmacy.

Just to let everybody know, Trekmovie.com added their third feature, focusing on Seeds of Dissent, yesterday. Like the others I have read, I thought the interview and review were cool, and really enjoyed the excerpt. This was actually one of the stories I was the most interested in, due to it being in a universe so different from "ours", and judging from the excerpt it looks like it won't dissapoint. There is just one thing I was kind of unclear on, are all of the human characters Augments or just Bashir?

Well now, I suppose you'll have to read the story ;) Would you really want me to spoil it for you?

After reading the last excerpt that was posted today at trekmovie I ordered both Myriad Universe books. Looking forward to being able to read these books soon.:)

FatherRob, are you going to continue doing these features for other books after you finish with the MryU?

Not every book gets the review/interview/excerpt treatment - it just varies from book to book. Next week's installment of the Library Computer will be a straight review, but then we'll be back to the r/i/e format for the other three MyrU stories.

We have some other features in the works at the moment for the next few months... stay tuned.

I wonder if the Myriad Universe books do well, could we see a Myriad Universe novel line? That way, we could get follow ups on some of the stuff in first two books, as well as whole new Alt-Treks.

Well, first off, it's important to realize that it's Myriad Universes, not Universe. The word "myriad" means "uncountably many," or "ten thousand" if you're an Ancient Roman. Either way, it's profoundly plural.

And that pretty much answers the question about the potential for continuation. If the audience interest is there, if the first two volumes sell well, there's certainly endless room for continuing the series. And there's definitely interest in doing so, from myself and (I'm sure) a lot of other authors. We're crossing our fingers, hoping the duology sells well enough to justify more volumes.
