Without going into spoiler territory (if you can), what elements did you contradict from the previous McCoy-centric novels you mentioned in the interview? Just elements of McCoy's backstory?

Yes. Some details involving the marriage didn't fit completely with the way we see McCoy's character. On the other hand, we did incorporate elements from most of those stories, I think.
