New Look Daleks Revealed

I think they look okay, but how they look in the episode itself will be the main factor.

I've seen it mentioned elsewhere that the black mid-section looks like it might rotate independently, something the RTD Daleks can only do when they are CGI, the physical prop cannot.

The fuck? Moffet may be a fantastic writer, but he has all the aesthetic sense of a...of a...something with no aesthetic sense.

i suspect the red, blue and yellow ones are simply shopped images of the white one.

They are- it says that on the Radio Times site linked to by the OP, that they've done red, yellow and blue for the cover to represent Labour, the Lib Dems and the Tories in the election campaign, so people can buy the cover variant for the party they prefer, if they care.

In the show it's just white.

In the show it's just white.

Not according to people who've seen the Preview DVD.

And they also say that these are somehow supposed to be
the real Daleks and all the ones we've seen since the series returned weren't.
Which is a pretty big "Fuck You" to RTD if correct.

Looking closely at that white Dalek, it looks somewhat like the colors are reversed from the classic series Hartnell era supreme daleks, who had black armor and white bumps.

Or, it could be a homage to the Davros-led Dalek faction from the last two Dalek serials from the classic series. But without the gold bits. Interestingly the 'mutants' in those casings were different than the standard Dalek-In Revelation they were made from humans ala the Parting of the Ways type-and in Rememberance they were much larger (Going by the transmat see-through Dalek). Then again the Dalek mutant design has changed over the years, from the 'hand" in the Daleks, to the blobs of later stories, to the more defined tentacled monsters of the JNT era, to finally the RTD versions which had eyeballs.

I don't mind the bright colors, but the middle part does look a bit odd. I'm sure I'll adjust though.

And why the heck did they keep the bathroom plunger? If they're going to redesign everything, might as well give them some pincers or some other kind of cool arm attachment too.

If only they were doing that with the Cybermen.

Actually this bodes well for a redesign of the Cybermen too, I'd think. I can't see Moffat doing this for one classic enemy and not the other...

We do see some Cybermen with the Cybus logo removed and replaced with a Cyberface (ala Tomb of the Cybermen) in the video game pics.

Also the video games show pictures from a city with Dalek style buildings. Perhaps a new version of Skaro? Fitting with their victory perhaps.

Depends on the financials - I guess a lot of props have to be redone because the show is now broadcast in HD but if something still looks ok, I can't see them wasting the money if they have serviceable kits - also we've seen a cyberman in the trailers and they look the same.

they spent money on Dalek Supreme and did little with it, yet alone explained why it was different.

It like the design and the use of more colors. The gold (or bronze) Daleks of the RTD era were fine, but I like the idea of more "nothin' subtle about us" Daleks.

DALEK: I can wear yellow and black--you still will be ex-ter-mi-na-ted!

Daleks wouldn't be Daleks if they weren't ridiculous looking.

True enough.

On other matters it's unlikely that Moffat has any interest whatever in giving "a big F.U." to the RTD era in any way, shape or form.

"WHO DA MAN?! Oh god, I'm never saying that again. Ever."

I took that as a big "F**K YOU" to RTD. :D

Wow, Moffat really IS changing everything isn't he?

I'm not going to get too worked up just yet. Remember all the wild speculation about the red Dalek with the extra bits added we saw prior to 'The Stolen Earth' that ended up with about two minutes of screen time total?
Actually it doesn't bother me all that much. Though the black bit that the sucker and gun stick are attached to seem rather oversized. Could just be the camera angle though. But if its permanent, I'm sure it'll grow on me. Though I still wish they'd get rid of those damn jelly jars attached to the dome.
