New Look Daleks Revealed

They are definitely growing on me. They look a bit more like the classic series daleks than the current ones. The colours are also highly reminiscient of the Cushing movie daleks.

Hopefully they will observe the divisional colour lore from those films, with red being for pilots, blue for scientists and grey for the grunts.

I actually don't mind them as I always loved the Daleks used in the Peter Cushing films. As long as they don't get ridiculous in terms of being "all the colours of the bow" i'll be fine. I also hope they fly a lot less than the RTD era Daleks. By having an army of millions of Daleks flying, it makes them virtually indestructable, yet in every encounter they were flawlessly defeated. Let's hope Moff injects some realism here.

I realise that the Daleks to some extent could fly in the original era, but it wasn't every Dalek. When the one Dalek in Remembrance of the Daleks ascended up the stairs, the tension was effective because they'd never done that before and there was only one. Now that they can fly so freely, that tension has been diminished.

im not sure im keen on all these colours, unless there is a good reason for it, and I would like for them to survive this time, so the differnt colours can be explored more, rather than just wiped out. Im ok with the grey & red one, just not the blue & yellow one.

Also they made of changed the shape of the Daleks, but I dont see any other improvements, same old plunger & extermination gun, if these things are meant to be an upgrade, how is a new shape an upgrade?

Yes millions of flying daleks gets old real quick.

I liked the idea that was used in the comic books, Dalek Empire audios and also by Nation in Planet of the Daleks - that the Daleks can only really fly any great distance with the use of their Trans-Solar disks.

I think the problem with the Daleks in RTDs era has not been the Daleks themselves, but how RTDs goes OTT in dealing with them.

Dalek - ok for all the Doctors grave warnings about the nearest city being wiped out, it was one single Dalek and he had alot of alien tech to hand, if the Dalek had not fallen in love with Rose, he could have handed it.

ok that one actually goes against the trend.

Parting of the Ways - Rose absorbs the time vortex to wipe them from time, whilst the Doctor builds a weapon he would never use, thank god Rose/TARDIS/BadWolf has no real moral problems with totally wiping out Daleks.

Doomsday - sucked in to a massive vacuum between reality's, which wasnt even fully explained anyways, as the Daleks from inside the Gensis Arc would never have had void particles on them, to get sucked in.

Evolution of the Daleks - less of a problem here, as the Daleks kinda fall out and took care of themselves, all the Doctor has to do is use there own creations against them, in an ending that its probaly better than Doomsday or Parting of the Ways. The Doctor being smart and solving the problem before it happened.

Journeys End - the Daleks are defeated by DoctorDonna taking over a handy control panel, this is actually the worst IMO, at least with Doomsday & Parting of the Ways, they are destroyed with big cool sci-fi ideas that kinda work if you dont think about it too much, here the DoctorDonna might as well have just pressed a "Destroy the Daleks" button.

Yes. The technical side of RTD era daleks was very, very well handled. The daleks themselves look and sound fantastic.

It's the dramatic side of how those daleks were handled by the writers that brings them down.

That was actually a pretty cool idea, I thought. Acquiring godly powers is a popular sci-fi theme. The build-up to it was good, as well, in my opinion.
It's been a while since I've seen the episode but the Doctor's moral dilemma was more about wiping out Earth in the process, not about wiping out the Daleks. He didn't have any such doubts in Dalek and he'd done it before, anyway.
Hell, this is probably the same incarnation that wiped out his own people because they wanted to implement the Ultimate Sanction.

This is the one which annoyed me the most. The episode still hasn't grown on me. Again, I have to refer to my example, Remembrance of the Daleks where McCoy's Doctor is challenged enough with a dozen or so Daleks. Keep in mind this is also with the support of his weapon loving companion, Ace plus the support of the military. To add to this, which you would think could make it easier, the white Daleks are in a heated dispute with the older Daleks and are killing one another off.

Yet, Tennant's Doctor can single-handedly flip a lever and thwart millions of FLYING Daleks. I thought the Yoda/Dooku lightsaber duel in Attack of the Clones was farfetched.

I haven't had a single complaint about the Daleks or the way they've been used in nuWho - I'm sorry, there's no way to go over the top or exaggerate the silliness of floating dustbins with squeaky voices out to annihilate everyone - and the new version looks just fine too. :techman:

Clearly void particles can penetrate that kind of shielding-- Rose and the Doctor had them from their trip in "Rise of the Cybermen", and they were in the TARDIS for that.

I can buy the change in appearance if they explain it that the post Time War Daleks have made improvements to themselves in order to stop their plans being foiled at the last minute by one guy in a box.

They look like bumper cars now...

A step sideways rather than a step down.

Seriously, the most important thing is that their faces are pretty much Dalek faces. I guess I might have been a little annoyed if they'd suddenly sprouted noses or two eyestalks or something.

And just how much Doctor Who had George Lucas seen when he conceived R2-D2?

Well Lucas is a fan, although who knows when he first started watching. Also, according to him, Spielberg is a fan of the original series and believes there's a lot of things missing to the new series that made the old one so great.

Apparently Spielberg has a highly developed sense of taste :)

i'm completely nonplussed.

actually, i like the fact that there's a yellow one. when i was a kid, i always wanted to see a yellow Dalek. yay.

I really like the new eyestalk. I wonder how it moves. Can it now move side to side as well as up and down while the dome is stationary? I also like the new neck. I guess I'm still not sold on the shoulder (plunger and gun) that is until I see them in action. I'm hoping it is a WTF! moment.

It would be awesome if the plunger retracts and then comes back out as another weapon/implement such as the claws or blowtorch making the dalek an all in one/swiss army type of machine.

Also not sold on the bigger bumper. I kinda liked the RTD era bumper. As I recall Dalek Invasion of Earth only used the bigger bumper to hide the bigger wheels for on location filming on rough surfaces. Not sure why they are needed here other than for asthetics and in this case I don't think it adds to the look of the Dalek.

All in all change can be good, unless that change involves the Cybusmen *ducks for cover*. :p
