New Laptop But Which One?

I am a solid true-and-true PC user, but I own a Mac.

I have a Macbook Pro with 4GB Ram, running VMware with XP Pro, Win 98 for games, and Linux Ubuntu 8.10 for learning.

I have a fully licenced copy of Final Cut Pro and several other apps which make this machine kick ass.

Plus the wireless allows me to type this post on my lap on the couch, instead of at my horribly oversized desk. :)

Personal experience says don't buy from HP. They screwed me over repeatedly, denied it, and basically after a year of horrible experiences, their customer service rep told me I was lying. My sis had equally bad experiences.

I've never had a problem with their printers, but the laptop I bought from them was the worst purchasing decision I've ever made.
Hm, I hear that from a lot of people but I quite enjoy mine and i've had it for a year and a half.

Thanks for all the responses!

If I do get a Mac and not load Windows of any version onto it, I should still be able to run Office for Macs and have it interact with my Dell desktop right?

Yes, but be prepared for Office documents (especially Powerpoints) not looking the same on the PC when produced on the Mac.

Or get iWork and use 'Pages.' You can export files as 'Word' documents if you need to share them.

Use 'Keynote' instead.

Instead of displaying the actual file, export it as a PDF sequence, HTML file, or image sequence and show that instead.

I bought an HP laptop about 8 months ago and it is a piece. Freezes, takes forever to boot, heats up to like 1000 degrees in 10 minutes, makes REALLY loud whirring noises.

Makes my old Gateway (which also sucked) look good.
