New Keane CD - Perfect Symmetry - just about perfect

I didn't see this posted anywhere yet, so figured I'd be safe in not doing a duplicate...

I've been listening to the new Keane CD, Perfect Symmetry, for about a week now and haven't been able to stop (and this from a RUSH fan!!!!)...

For a pop album, the amount of texture and layering in the music (as well as the lyrics) really is quite astounding, without being overproduced (unlike Coldplay's latest).

I've always been impressed by their stuff, but this new CD is something special. This is what Coldplay should be shooting for...

As the years have progressed, so has Keane's music.. no longer just straight piano, drum, bass, they've introduced a small amount of guitar and even some brass on one song.. There's a decidedly synthy-pop edge to it, and some would call it an 80's sound.. I guess that's fair on some of the tracks, but the standouts really have that familiar, yet more developed Keane sound to them..

I highly recommend this to you!!!!

My wife is a HUGE Keane fan and was somewhat disappointed by this last CD. I picked it up for her the day it came out. I listened to it last weekend and I did like it more than she did. I also enjoyed it more than Coldplay's Viva La Vida. She thinks that she will have to listen to it multiple times to get into it more. There are some great tracks on the CD especially "The Lovers Are Losing" and the title track. I may have to put them on my MP3 player.

I ordered the CD/DVD combo from the UK to go with her CD/DVD for Under The Iron Sea as one of her Christmas presents. Hopefully she will like it more by then.

I will admit that the departure in familar sound took me a few listens to get used to, just like it did with Under the Iron Sea... But there's just so much goodness under the surface that I'm finding it hard to put down.. I gave Viva La Vida a few listens, but it really hasn't hit home with me yet... I'm sure your wife will grow to really enjoy it!

Many of my favourite albums are albums I didn't like much when I first heard them. As a rule, albums that immediately strike me as being great are often catchy or novel and too often don't stand the test of time.

Pingfah, that's a really good point!

I can think of several albums that got good play in my CD player early on, which I haven't picked up since...

Really like this disc. Their first one is still my favorite, but I really do like this one a lot! "Again and Again" is my favorite track, at least at this point.

I got to listen to a couple of tracks the other in a friend car...can't say what I heard really grabbed me. I'd only consider myself a moderate fan since I only know their previous singles Somwhere Only We Know, Bad Dream, Everybody's Changing, Crystal Ball but I've liked those songs.
