New Jason & Freddie Movies

Sorry. No Robert Englund, no admission from me. What happened to that prequel idea he and another writer came up with a few years ago?

I think a prequel film would be a great idea. It would be a good way to tidy up his origin story once and for all, and a film about the Springwood Slasher (making Freddy a very Human threat, as opposed to a supernatural one) could be very creepy, if it's done right.

I can see maybe trying to update Jason. The Friday the 13th movies didn't even have Jason w/hockey mask till the 3rd installment. I can really understand tweaking the formula in this franchise.

Nightmare on Elm Street doesn't need it. Not that it is as reverred as say Psycho, Halloween or Chainsaw Massacre it was well done and I don't see a need to remake it to relaunch the character/franchise.

The only thing that bothers me is that they're talking about filming a new 'exorcism drama'. If it's anything like Emily Rose it will put me to sleep.

Well, they already screwed up Halloween, so they might as well go for the trifecta.

Unless Zombie directs the film, there is no reason at all to be afraid of the outcome based on what people thought of "Halloween." It's a completely different film.

Though, honestly, Zombie's a better match for Freddy Krueger than he was for Michael Myers. He could really tap into nightmares that are more psychological than "giant Freddy snake."

Hell, he wouldn't have been a bad choice for the Friday the 13th remake, just because it'd be so hard to screw up. The Halloween remake was an uphill battle to begin with, just because the original is such a classic. Friday the 13th...not so much.

All that said, I'm not sure he'd be very interested in either. He seems much more interested in psychos than the supernatural.

Maybe, in that case, he'd be good for a Springwood Slasher movie. Telling the story of Freddy as a psycho killer up to the point where he is killed by the mob and becomes the dream demon.

New Line should mix and match more franchises. Freddy vs. Jason vs. Shredder!
I don't know who Shredder is. Was Freddie vs Jason intended to be a one-time matchup?

^ I'm guessing Aragorn's refering to The Shredder, from the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise.

I don't think Freddy Vs Jason was meant to be a one time deal. There were plans for a Freddy Vs Jason Vs Ash (Ash being Bruce Campbell's character from the Evil Dead films), but New Line couldn't get the rights to use Ash, although that particular match-up has recently been explored in a comic book series.

There are still plans to go ahead with another Freddy Vs Jason, with New Line (allegedly) trying to get the rights to use Michael Myers. Who knows if that, or any other incarnation of the Freddy Vs Jason idea, will come to fruition though.

You're so right. After all, there's that lengthy list of successful remakes and such lending such strong precedent.

Oh, wait..... :D

I realize it's a different director, but that doesn't alter my misgivings. How many remakes have been done where the persons responsible appear to have no understanding of what made the original version(s) so popular? They pay lip service to being big fans and "getting it," blah blah blah, and then when it finally hits the screen, we all look at each other and wonder what the hell happened.

Besides, I dig the original Jason and Freddy. Leave them alone, dammit and go make your own unkillable badass.

If only. Unfortunately, this probably isn't going to get resolved, at least not in the near future. Raimi is in talks with various studio bods over an Evil Dead remake, and Bruce Campbell has, apparently, been talking to Raimi about the possibility of a fourth installment. With both those ideas still on the table, I doubt Raimi is going to allow New Line to use the character in a FvJ movie.

Looks like we'll have to make do with the comic series, at least for the time being.

Yes, I was referring to The Shredder. I thought people would've known who he was, and I wouldn't have to resort to Freddy vs. Jason vs. Bebop & Rocksteady. :)

As for Michael Myers, I don't see Dimension giving up one of their "franchises" over to New Line for one movie. If anything, I'm sure Dimension is figuring out how to make Michael Myers vs. Pinhead.

You know, New Line has another franchise of note. How about Freddy and Jason Visit The Shire?

I want to see Pinhead vs. Bob the Builder.

It might seem one-sided, until you realize that Bob owns an array of hammers.
