Apple Introduces New iPod touch
September 1, 2010

Apple today announced the new iPod touch, packed with incredible new features including Apple’s stunning Retina display, FaceTime video calling, HD video recording, Apple’s A4 chip, 3-axis gyro, iOS 4.1, and Game Center — all combined in the thinnest and lightest iPod touch ever. The new iPod touch features up to 40 hours of music playback and seven hours of video playback on a single battery charge.

wristband for the nano to become a watch is probably a few months from becoming a reality. It's a no brainer. You can use the arm band temporarily

Dammit and I just bought a used 32GB touch to replace my 8GB one.

And after downloading Itunes Ten, it's playing havoc with my Ipod with the "Itunes has detected the Ipod, but couldn't Identify it properly" messege. As far as I'm concerned, until I get this problem fixed (And I probably have to go to one of the stores and ask because I've tried pretty much everything suggested), Apple can go fuck themselves.

I speant a good amount of time on this and now I'm going to bed. That's how fucking angry I am right now.

I went out and bought a 5th gen nano this past sat because I really liked it and wasn't sure about this refresh/change when it was being rumored.

I don't think I made a mistake. While the new nano is cool, I don't really care for it, outside of the cool "can be worn as a watch" concept.

I'm keeping my Classic. It's got enough capacity, and - unlike all these fancy Touches and Nanos and Shuffles - I can safely use it in my car (which is pretty much the only place I ever use an iPod these days).

Yeah, I'm sticking with my Classic as well. I don't have any use for apps on the move and the classic is the only one with the capacity I need.

The classic is my go to pod, but the nano does sound tempting to use as a wrist watch. They should include facetime in next year's revision so that my dream of being Dick Tracy can come true.

What they really need to do is stuff a front facing camera and FaceTime on the new Nano so we can all pretend to be Dick Tracy.

I've been using a Touch in my car for the last two and a half years. What's unsafe about it? And what's unsafe about a Nano or a Shuffle?

I do have to admit that I'm pretty surprised that Apple dropped video from the Nano.

Meet the new product, same as the old product.

So... is Apple pretty much going to do nothing but repackage iPods and iPhones for eternity while claiming they're the most innovative company on the planet?

I have no particular hate for Apple, I own an iPod Touch, but I don't turn my head every time Apple releases a new iPod model the way some people do.

They're coming up against the limits of how small and how functional you want a device like this to be, what are they going to sell people once everyone has a 2" x 2" paper-thin iPhone with a touch screen so small it's hardly functional for anyone who doesn't have baby-fingers?

I want to know what standard Steve Jobs was using to say that as a gaming platform, the iPod was outselling both Nintendo and Sony combined. The Nintendo DS has sold something in the neighborhood of 130 million units, more than all iPhones and iPod Touches to date.

Yes, Apple's continued insistence that they're the most successful mobile gaming platform is definitely one of the more ridiculous things they've done with the iPod platform in terms of marketing. Even if they have outsold all DS's and PSP's, only a fraction of their users are even buying games. Everytime they trot these numbers out I feel agitated.

I do like how technology is becoming thinner and smaller, the entire device is the size of the screen, pretty slick

I would just have a problem trying to manipulate a screen like that, I'm too used to working the clickwheel on my Classic. I can do it without looking at the 'Pod.

Besides I just don't like the Touch's interface in general. I rarely listen to music on my iPad because I always end up stuck.

The metric must be best selling gaming platform that runs iOS.

Nintendo should sue Apple, that would be funny.

Seriously though, that's false advertising when they make that claim in a promotional manner, it's actually illegal. Kia can not make a commercial tomorrow that claims they are the best selling automaker in the world.

I really would love to know how Apple justifies that metric.

I really wish the new AppleTV would run iOS apps (I don't think it does - it's certainly nowhere in the promotional material for it). I might have bought one if it had.

That being said, NBC is being a jackass about show rentals, so I probably wouldn't need the ATV anyway (Law & Order: SVU seems to be my only show that's left).

The new appletv doesn't support "apps" yet. It appears to be running a modified iOS with a 10 foot interface instead of a touch one. However, apple has said that there can be an app store in the future, and that the new box could support apps through one, when the market needs one. But they don't feel that there is a large enough drive in the market for one yet.

Most of the tech talkers seem to think that it would focus on things likes set top games and on screen "widgets" primarily.
