Scientists believe that MU69 is an ancient asteroid that is comprised of the material that was present when the planets formed. New Horizons will make its fly-by of MU69 on New Years Day 2019, a little over two years from now.
Hopefully New Horizons will be able to gather enough data from MU69 to paint a picture of how early biological systems evolved on Earth. A picture that will add to the puzzle of determining the best method to look for life in the Milk Way Galaxy.
