New Hardcovers

I don't miss physical books in the slightest, I'm interested in the message not the medium.

While I agree with you that the content is the most important aspect of reading I also appreciate the presentation and aesthetics. It's the whole package with me and my reading habits. Going to my bookshelves and choosing which book to read, the feel of the book in my hands and the area of my house that is my reading space. All these things contribute to my reading enjoyment and taking away the physical book just seems to diminish that enjoyment. I am certainly not against anyone else using e-readers but I plan to hold out as long as possible !

There is nothing like it and I personally don't miss the feel of physical books in the slightest. I'm an avid reader too, and I've always loved books, but I love the ability to keep a page while switching between books...

We have that with physical books too. It's called a bookmark.

No way! Get your head out of the clouds man. You may write about the 24th century, but we don't live there yet.

Actually, I seem to recall this bookmark you speak of from the before time, in the long, long ago. My Kindle works better for that too.

I do generally keep a physical book on hand for the first and last 20 minutes of a flight, but I'm usually wishing I had the book on Kindle while I am reading it.

Why would you need to do that? Assuming you were reading on an ereader rather than a tablet and further assuming it didn't have 3G and the wi-fi were turned off, why couldn't you keep using it? Other than "they won't let me" of course...

"They wont let me" is pretty much the reason. Flight attendants will put you on the naughty list and threaten to turn the plane around...I'm a rule follower, what can I say.

Oh, I get you. I've got a little bit of rebel in me sometimes but I usually don't mess around on planes. I just haven't flown since I got my Kindle. I wasn't sure if they were being strict on them or not. I'm sure they see a screen and just assume it's a device that has to be shutdown. I don't want to be explaining to the FAA or the police or the FBI why I wouldn't shut my Kindle down for the first and last five minutes of a flight.

There was a study a few years ago, and I'm trying to find the source for it but having very little luck, that something like ten percent of the electrical devices that are supposed to be shut off at takeoff and landing on American flights actually aren't. (American flights are far more cautious about electrical devices than airlines in other nations. Studies have shown that cell phones and Gameboys do not, actually, interfere with airplane electronics.) My last cross-country flight my mobile was on the whole way home; I simply forget to turn it off. It's a lot more common than you think.

I never gave it much thought when I was younger, but as I grew older I still prefer the ease of use of a paperback over a big hardback. Recently reading Stephen King's The Dome nearly gave me a hernia!!

And I can't stand having a book series (Trek or not) that's half softcover and half hardcover. I've got a few big nice hardcover non-fiction books, but they're few and far between.

I would never delete anything I paid full price for, whether it's a movie or episode on Itunes or the Playstation Network or a ebook for my Nook.

Why don't you save every newspaper you've ever bought? They are intentionally disposable.

MMPB novels are considered by some to be disposable. They buy them, read them, then take them straight to a charity store.

Some people just want to read an eBook, then clear the device's memory to buy more eBooks.

No, I meant digital stuff. I take books in to the library and used bookstores, and I recycle magazines. But I do that either to get money or save space, and neither of those things are a concern with digital files. All they take up is memory, and that is easy to back up.
