New Frontier: Turnaround #3

IIRC, Cutting Ties takes place simultaniously with the first four NF books, circa 2373. Turnaround takes place at least six years later.
The historian's note says it's simulataneous with the first four books, and then specifies that it takes place at approximately the same time as Deep Space Nine's fourth season.

It's either one or the other. It can't be both.

The collapse of the Thallonian Empire happened after Star Trek: First Contact, in mid-season five for DS9, as Captain Korsmo was killed in the defense of Earth. So, end of season five, not season four.

On the other hand, who knows what the New Frontier timeline is any more. PAD's chronological conundrums make John H. Watson look like a friggin' historian. (Sherlockians will understand the reference.)

sure, it's approximate, both the first four books of New Frontier and the Cutting Ties take place over the course of years, heck decades really.

Well I finally got a chance to read this issue and I have to say wow. What an issue. Like many others, I wish it wasn't short like this but its fine w/ me. Just to see everything finally tieing up to the first 2 issues and the mirror universe storyline really into it.
I just have to say from the first issue, when I predicted about McHenry appearing on the viewscreen of the Excalibur and well being bald, well that was the first thing I noticed about this being a mirror universe story.
I really like how Mirror Calhoun looks through. Does anyone else think his uniform sort of resembles the Starfleet duty uniform?

I forgot to mention this earlier. Calhoun and Soleta both refer to her ship as Specter instead of Spectre. That was a bit jarring.

Does anyone else think his uniform sort of resembles the Starfleet duty uniform?
Yeah, I can see that. My first impression was a Romulan uniform. I guess the best description is a cross between the two.

Wouldn't the American spelling be more familiar than less for you? For me, I see that way of spelling the word and all I can think of is Arlen Specter.

Fictitiously yours, Trent Roman

I've always spelled it as "spectre" (even if Firefox spell checker doesn't agree with me :p).

Just in case - my review contains spoilers:

When I read this comic I noticed a big improvement in the art. The faces are definitely more hit than miss this time and sometimes I was really impressed. And the last page – wow! That is a very nice portrait of Mirror Calhoun!

It seems that the artist is finding his feet and gets more comfortable with these characters. I hope I am right and the next two issues are at least on the same quality level. I am growing to like his art style more.

I liked the interaction of Soleta with the two different Jellicos. Now Soleta is a prisoner with Admiral Jellico, one of the main advocates responsible for her being kicked out of Starfleet. I wonder where this will go. We still don`t know why Jellico turned from loathing Calhoun to being one of his best friends. Should something similar happen here? It wouldn`t surprise me. If Soleta survives this story, I am very curious what will happen next.

I was giggling all the time when I read about Kebron`s hilarious slide show about his family holidays and poor Lucius having to watch it. Well… it worked. That was an interesting torture :).

We now get some hints of what this is all about. It seems Mirror McHenry, who was the madman we saw earlier, is behind all this. It is his plan, it seems, but he obviously convinced Calhoun and not only him that whatever this mad plan is, is the only way to get rid of the dictatorship in his universe.

Again, I would have loved it to read more. Now there are only two more issues left.
