New Frontier: The Returned Part 1 cover and blurb

Defcon

startrek.com has posted the cover and blurb for the first part of Peter David's upcoming New Frontier (novella) trilogy:

Captain Mackenzie Calhoun and the crew of the U.S.S. Excalibur are back, picking up three months after the stunning events depicted in New Frontier: Blind Man’s Bluff. Calhoun's search of Xenex has failed to find any survivors, and now he is bound and determined to track down the race that killed them—the D'myurj and their associates, the Brethren--and exact vengeance upon them. His search will take the Excalibur crew into a pocket universe, where he discovers not only the homeworld of the D’myurj, but another race that shares Calhoun's determination to obliterate his opponents. But is this new race truly an ally…or an even greater threat?

I'm about 5 or 6 books behind on New Frontier, but why is there an Ambassodor class ship on the cover?

Maybe that's a different ship? Seems like a big oversight otherwise.. Either way, very excited for these to come out as I only recently finished Blind Man's Bluff.

Maybe there's a sequence in the novel set on the old Excalibur?

I love the Ambassador-class. So much better looking than the Galaxy. :)

Oh my, this is ebook only

In the first few lines of the description of this book, it's referred to as a "digital first enovel". That sounds like they'll be releasing it as an mmpb down the line. Probably 2016.

Perhaps Calhoun saves Xenex by going back in time, again, to the old ship, and this time round he fixes the continuity issues with the rest of the novel verse?

Good, then it´ll be on Cross Cults schedule, some time in the future, as they are still busy with catching up New Frontier, bringing it up to date. Maybe 2020 .

Yep. And the original announcement suggested it was a Gallery book, not Pocket, so probably the three eBooks as one first-time-in-trade PB, thus matching the last few NF installments?

If Peter David can make New Frontier mesh with the rest of the post-Destiny stories, then that would be fantastic.

I hope you're right. I'll be buying the eNovellas as they're released, but I'd prefer a TPB release eventually to complete the New Frontier books on my shelf.

Strangely though Peter David's "Untitled" New Frontier book that I pre ordered from Amazon thru a link on PAD's website is still listed for sale at Amazon both as a full novel and full kindle release - 368 pages, but the chopped down novellas aren't available for pre order. I don't expect this means anything though except that the pre order was put up before the change to novellas was made and nobody's bothered to pull the pre order yet.

Unless a really big portion of this is set on the old Excalibur, the idea that they put an Ambassador on the cover because of a flashback makes no sense.

Very sloppy really.

Maybe the cover to book two is the Galaxy-class Excalibur-A? Then cover three... what comes next?
