New Frontier question

PKS8304

Lieutenant Commander
Red Shirt
I started Blind Man's Bluff yesterday, only got about 3 chapters into it, but something made me curious.

Calhoun and Nechayev are talking about the possiblity of infiltration in Starfleet and Calhoun brings up the parasites from seaon 1 of TNG.

He says that they were an offshoot species of the Trill.

When was this revealed?

DS9 Relaunch, I forget the exact book but it's definitely a plot point in Lives of Dax and Unity

^They're full history is revealed in the Worlds of DS9 Trill story, "Unjoined". The story with them starts in the Mission Gamma series and is fully concluded in "Unjoined".

When I get back into the Mission Gamma series I am on book 2.

I have Worlds of DS9 vol 2 ready to buy on Friday on my Nook.

I had no idea anything was ever done with those parasites so Im excited to read it.

I think there was also a completely unrelated TNG comic that also dealt with the Enterprise-D crew running into them on a planet. This was back during DC's run and as far as I know there is no connection between it and the relaunch version of the parasites.

From what I understand, the parasite storyline was something the writing staff of season 1 devised before the 1988 writer's strike.

When the new writing team came aboard for season 2, they salvaged elements of the plot which ultimately came about the creation of the Borg.
