New FARRAGUT episode is SPECTACULAR!!!

Much apologizings for bumping the thread after two months, but I just watched this. I enjoyed it - very nice work. And I love that one line Washington had:

"I must sit down...before I fall down." :guffaw:

Gotta love the final scene as well.

I just saw it too for the first time, and I really enjoyed it. That last scene was spectacular! I did not see that coming at all.

I thought it was pretty good. The pacing was a bit slow I think. Probably could have been condensed down to 4 acts. The actor who played Washington was fabulous as well as the ending. Jersey Devil....awesome!
I like the dynamic between the Captain and the security chief and I can see those two as a nice contrast between the science officer and engineering chief.

I know exactly where you filmed as I live in the D.C. area as well.

Vfx is pretty good. The space shots are really nice, especially with planets.
Also, if you guys ever need matte paintings, let me know, I'd be more then happy to work on anything Star Trek. I'm in the vfx industry and matte work is my specialty. See my sig for my site.

What camera do you use? I'm assuming it's DV as evidenced by the blown out whites?
Do you have a semi-pro crew or are you learning as you go?

Great work!

I agree with you there, Tim's work is very impressive. I like the ship scene and the day to night castle the best.

Thanks guys!

Glad you like my work. The shot with the ship is getting published in a book due in August I think.

I'm downloading the first part of Episode 2 now. If it looks like it holds promise, I'll download the other parts. :)

Loved this episode, it's exactly what I think Original Series era Trek should be like!

I had two VERY minor issues plot-wise with this episode. The first is that it took me a while to work out that the character everyone kept referring to as "The General" was Washington - I'm not that well-versed in American history and for all I knew, it could've been General Custer, or someone like that! Maybe it would've been better when they recognised him to have the Captain say "General Washington" rather than just "The General"? (Or maybe that's just me not wanting an American show to be so America-centric!)

The other was... WHY did the scientist turn red? I mean, I know he couldn't survive on Earth, but was the red look part of that? Sunburn maybe? I kinda didn't recognise him for a few seconds...

Anyway, GREAT episode, keep up the brilliant work!

Custer was Civil War.

I wouldn't presume to know how people of other nationalities would see it, but to any American, when you're discussing the American Revolution there is only one General. And those costumes were pretty obviously Revolution-era....not to mention the smooth bore muskets. By the time of the civil war rifles were more common.

Oh? Sorry, my American history's not very good...

Like I said, my American history is God-awful, so I wouldn't've known any of that - all I knew was that it was some American General way back in history, until someone said the name.

I'm glad everyone has liked our effort. Yes we are still learning and with each episode under our belt we stress due diligence on our lessons learned. We are not perfect, but then again, we aren't being paid either and this is a weekend event for some.

Our camera is a Canon XL2 shot at 24fps in a 16 x 9 aspect ratio. Our effects are done by http://www.neo-fx.com. They are extremely professional. We do utilize New Voyages/Phase 2 bridge, transporter and sickbay sets. we are currently building our own shuttlecraft which will debut in July for our first "Crew Log" (vignette) "Just Passing Through."

The buildings at Smallwood State Park used for "For Want Of A Nail" are both authentic period buildings (sorry, no vinyl or aluminum siding.) I can't guarantee the doors authenticity since there was no one on hand to verify it, but do agree that it "appears" modern.

We do take all criticism and have tried to step up the production value with each effort. We do realize that we have a long way to go, but time will tell. Thanks for your patience and understanding.

If you live in the area and have a skill to bring to the Farragut Family, I encourage you to send your resume to our HR department. hbednar@starshipfarragut.com. Holly will be more than happy to review your resume and if accepted, bring you on board with us. We are currently looking for Camera Operators, Lighting Technicians and Production Assistants.

Thanks,
