A "Family Guy" spinoff show featuring the character of Cleveland Brown is mixing up its voice cast, ethnically speaking.

Mike Henry, who is white, will continue to provide the voice for Cleveland on Fox's new animated series. Joining Henry in the cast will be black actors Sanaa Lathan, Nia Long and Kevin Michael Richardson, the network announced Monday.
Fox programming chief Kevin Reilly said the casting wasn't provoked by ribbing the network has taken for a black role voiced by a white actor.
"Mike's been doing that character for a long time, so we knew going in that was a fix, we're going to have a white guy," he said at a Television Critics Association meeting, responding to a reporter's question.
"But clearly, the idea was just to make an ethnically diverse show in front of and behind the camera, which we are," and to create a largely African-American cast for the Brown family, Reilly said.
Lathan will play Cleveland's wife, Donna, while Long will voice the character of rebellious stepdaughter Roberta. In a colorblind casting move, Richardson will play the part of Lester, described as a "redneck."
"Cleveland" follows the Browns as they move to Cleveland's Virginia hometown and encounter neighbors including Lester, a family of bears and a British family enamored with the Victorian era, Fox said.
The show is set for a 2009 debut.
Family of bears. Gotta love it.

Hmm. Doesn't look like Roberta is going to be the "ignored kid" like Meg, unless the guys in that town are blind.

But hell, what we really wanna know is - "the baby, the baby, damn you! Does it talk? Is it evil? Answer me!"

I'm a little bit behind in my Family Guy viewing. Has Cleveland gotten remarried in the recent episodes?

Is it me, or this new re-drawn Cleveland Jr. look a LOT LIKE Peter Griffin? I wonder if they're implying anything there (or if it's just a coincidence in how they draw obese people)?

no thank you. Cleveland is my least favorite character on Family Guy. Does that at least mean he'll be leaving there? :)

What other spin offs would work? Adam West goes to Washington? Diane Simmons starts her show at another tv station?

That large chicken goes around beating people up...?

After the initial announcement of this back in February, there wasn't a great deal of information on it until roughly mid-May, when this little gem was revealed...

EDIT: Apparently, I cannot figure out how to embed video within the site (I rarely post on here anymore). However, if you go to YouTube, there are numerous clips for the show, including the already beloved theme song...

For me, this would be like an "Everybody Loves Hypno-Toad" spin-off from Futurama.

Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

No...that was unfair. I would likely enjoy Hypno-Toad. All glory to the Hypno-Toad.

Do we Really need another Family Guy spin-Off? Well I guess American Dad isn't really a spin-off.

Why is Fox doing this? It looks incredibly stupid. Cleveland works well as a supporting character, but I just can't see him supporting a show on his own.

And their neighbors are bears?

Not as of yet. There is a story planned for next season that will get the ball rolling on the start of The Cleveland Show that involved Brian and Cleveland falling in love with the same woman. It will also show the brief return of Loretta Brown.

I don't think it's meant to imply anything, but then again you never know about Family Guy. I find it surprising though that Cleveland Jr. changed that much. Last I remember seeing him he was extremely active.
