New Enterprise: Model or CG?

Thanks for the pics. The fourth one is a model shot, not CG. The fifth one is an example of very good CG. I couldn't get one of the others to come up, but the rest are mediocre cg fx shots.

How about pulling up some shots of the Phoenix from FC? or E-d arcing around veridian from INS? Just so we have some good miniature shots for comparison. Or ANY e-e earth orbit flyby from fc, more great model shots?

I know how great the model-shots look.
The point I was trying to make is that the cg-shot can (and do) look as equally as good.

BTW: The forth picture is not a model-shot. It is a combination of a real model (front of the saucer) and a cg-model. Since you think the cg-work is mediocre, could you point out where the transition from model to cg-model is in that image?

And maybe you could tell us why the rest of the shot are mediocre?

Yes it is.

No, both methods have their use...

For example: It would have been much more complicated and work-intensive to build the city of Minas Tirith (Lord of the Rings) as a CG-model/-invironment rather than as that beautiful (real) model that was used.

On the other hand we have the CG-buildings of New York in 'King Kong'...

There really is no definitive answer.

I doubt it would have been any more complicated etc. There have been several recent movies where just that thing was done and done very well. CGI has already surpassed miniatures in terms of look and cost and will only get better and better.
