New Engineering

It was a little odd to see originally, but I think it worked.
The saucer section would be all glamor, where the engineering hull would be mostly open spaces, raw metal exposed, etc.

As for the new warp core(s), it actually worked for me. I just imagined the multiple small reactors were in that "hallway" reactor from TOS.

You know, when you think of all the stuff a starship's engineering plant is supposed to do (propulsion, power generation, food and materials replication/recycling, atmospheric processing, etc) the new engineering might just be the most realistic one they've ever shown in Trek. In addition, I may be mistaken but I don't think the secondary hull has very many windows compared to previous Enterprises. By this, I surmise that the ENTIRE secondary hull is devoted to hangar deck and engineering. This would make perfect sense to me and would cover why engineering looks so immense.

Loved it. Looks a lot more practical than a screened wall with lights behind it, a stairwell and half of a plastic pipe glued to a wall. If I hadn't read here where the scenes were filmed, I never would have guessed "Wow! That looks like a effin brewery." And even knowing this going in I didn't get that feeling. Just as I know everything else is a set, I wasn't sitting there thinking "Wow! This is so effin fake." I suspended my sense of disbelief since it was a movie.

Six words.

SPACE MUTINY WITH A BIG BUDGET

Space Mutiny came to me too.

"Man, doesn't this huge basement kind-of make the ship bottom-heavy?"

"Ah, more shots of the rusting septic system of this futuristic spaceship" - Tom Servo.

To their credit, at least the Enterprise engineering deck didn't have big windows with daylight comeing through:d

Indeed.

Sadly, we got no railing kills in this movie. :(
