New Complete TWOK Remastered Soundtrack Album From LA LA LAND

It's funny, I have a hard time sometimes enjoying an album because I know where all the edits are. I hate revealing where things are because I don't want people to suffer the same problem.

If enough time passes I can usually forget but some are printed on my brain.
To remember is a curse. To forget is a blessing. I understand. You know what I do in situations like that? I listen to other renditions to make the familiar unpredictable.

Take this for example. Star Trek: Starfleet Academy for the Super Nintendo has 16-bit renditions of James Horner's work! I'll listen to this from time to time to refresh my appreciation for the original.

Got mine today. Ripped to my PC (FLAC) and it sounds great!

I haven't done any sort of comparative analysis with the '09 release, but I -think- it sounds better than I remember it sounding in the past.

Glad I picked it up!

It’s so weird how out of sequence the OST is.
It was an art form. And TWOK was amazing. Even in the main program I still find it odd that Surprise Attack leads right into Kirk's Explosive Reply.

Also keep in mind that there was a side one and a side two.

TWOK was my initial introduction to soundtracks once I started driving on my own. I’ll never forget the first time I played the original album CD and listened to it all the way through. It almost killed me…

The end of ‘Kirk’s Explosive Reply’ was so unexpected and so loud that I thought I was going to have a heart attack on the road. What the heck just happened?! That wasn’t in the film! Cripes, that gave the shakes.

I remember in high school I was playing that tape (yes, tape) right when the lapmaster came around to check us in at curfew. As he left our cabin (roommate was already asleep) I thought "I really ought to turn this down, he's going to hear that part... but no, that's not fair, in a rational world he should've already told me it was too loud."

Well sure enough he hollers back "TURN YOUR MUSIC DOWN" right after those notes played out. And submissive geek that I was and still am, I did so even though it was no longer necessary.

Pfft. That's nothing compared to the album version of Battle in the Mutara Nebula. "The track is over, right?" Nope!

The end of "Kirk's Explosive Reply?" It was supposed to play under the shot of the damaged Enterprise and ring out under the shot of Kirk walking through sickbay. It's mentioned in the new notes (page 9).
I figured there was a cut scene where Khan laughed maniacally and then it cut to the damaged Enterprise. Well, today I learned.

It's ridiculously over the top for that purpose. It was well cut.

I agree it was a bit much for the Enterprise being damaged. Again, if Khan had been laughing maniacally, and then it cut to a saddened Kirk entering sickbay, it might've worked.
