That still doesn't rule out the possibility of Shona still coming back. We could have two companions, after all.

<RAISES WING> Yup, I breathed a sigh of relief when that screeching harpy didn't hop on board as the new Companion at the end of The Runaway Bride. But, I loved Donna after her first regular episode as Companion, when she had mellowed a bit.
I'm glad Clara is staying, but I DO think it would be kinda cool to have Shona as a second Companion and pal for Clara. Since they did seem to have a nice little rapport at the end of the special.

If she is just 3 or 4 years ahead, and is planning on rewatching the final season of Game of Thrones again, I'm not sure if I hate her or love her for having access to that when I don't.
Other companions, have had access to the TARDIS libraries and seen a lot of things that they shouldn't have. Just the other week, Ace called someone Buzz Lightyear, which didn't make much sense until you remembered that she had had free access to the TARDIS libraries for the last two decades and of course she would have devoured every Pixar had ever made.

I thought Shona would be the next companion simply because she called The Doctor a magician, which is part of the title of the next episode. They did seem to hint at her coming back based on a few things at the end.
