According to tvshowsondvd.com , on July 21, MGM will be coming out with a new DVD release of "Children of the Gods." Has anyone else heard of this? What will be different about this new "Final Cut"? Will it include Sha're's nude scene or will that be cut out? (I'd kinda prefer if it were cut out since it doesn't fit at all with the tone of the rest of the franchise.)

The nude scene will be cut out, and there will be a new, completely original score (as opposed to the old version that was made up almost entirely of reedited cues from the movie). I think there are also going to be some updated special effects.

Any particular reason why they're doing this? Or is it just a new way to squeeze out some extra money during the long wait for the next original SG-1 direct-to-video movie?

According to Brad Wright in an interview a few months (year?) back, he was never happy with the cut of the first episode and, apparently, had a strong desire to revisit it. MGM is granting him that wish (probably because they can see this as a way to squeeze out more money).

I'd be curious to see it. Probably just give it a rent, though.

I'd watch it if only for the new music. I hate how the movie score completely fails to fit in anywhere it's used in the episode.

I wish they'd throw in "The Enemy Within," since it is a nice bookend to the pilot, but I suppose we still have that on the DVD sets. Speaking of which, will this eventually be released with season 1 (perhaps a release in 5.1 sound instead of 2.0)?

Wow $26.98 suggested retail price? :wtf: I picked up the entire first season at Costco for about $20 several years ago.
I might rent this, but no way am I spending that much for an episode that I already have.

I never had a problem with "Children of the Gods." If they had to redo an episode, "Emancipation" is more in need, but it's not the editing that's the main problem there.

That's an interesting theory. How does it account for the fact that they're currently making a new SG-1 movie, a new Atlantis movie, and 20 episodes of Universe?

Loved COTG, so I'll probably catch this, not that there was anything wrong with the original cut.

You're assuming those will be original and fresh, and not rehashed garbage from previous series'.

It will be the most torrented movie of the month!

Honestly?! Who's gonna pay for this?!

Public service announcement: don't use torrents.
:borg:

No, I'm assuming they exist. bigdaddy said they're rehashing old stargate because they're too stupid to make new stargate, and they need something to keep the money flowing in. The fact that they are making new stargate (regardless of how craptastic the movies and episodes may or may not end up being) crushes his point.

I'd say they're just doing this to test the Blu-Ray waters, they might end up remastering SG1 to put it on Blu-Ray.

For how many seasons were the effects only mastered on NTSC video again? And, although both are superior to HD, when did they switch from 16mm to 35mm?

I think only the first 2 years were in 16mm.

I know "Entity" was their first episode shot in digital HD.
