New Animated Show: Star Wars: Forces of Destiny

Looks like it could be a lot of fun.
I'm I the only one who found it a bit odd that they showed a clip from Game of Thrones after a trailer for a series geared towards young kids? I understand that it was apparently just the thing they show at the end with their subscription button, but you'd still think they could have found something more appropriate for the trailer's target audience.

Interesting that we see Leia in three different points. In her "New Hope" white gown and buns, on Hoth, and on Endor. I wonder how many segments will focus on her and how many other character's segments she will guest in? And still no sign of Hera in any of the footage, unless I'm missing something blindingly obvious.

Well if this can't convince you it's at least worth a look, them I'm afraid you're a lost cause! ;)
Yeah, I've seen that trailer before and most of it looks very good, but I'm still not a fan of the character designs. But I should give it a try and see if they grow on me. I originally didn't like the character design in Tron: Legacy but I quickly got over them because the stories were so good.

Honestly after a few episodes I stopped even noticing the design style. The only thing that bugged me early on was the character animation was a little too "bouncy" and over exaggerated. It was as if they were over-correcting for TCW's being a little too stiff in a Gerry Anderson kind of way early on. By the end of the first season they'd sorted it and found the right balance. Like all good shows, it's the character and story telling that really stays with you, best not to get too hung up on the aesthetics.

Funny, I think Rebels' animation is still too bouncy. It's very distracting sometimes.

^Yeah, it looks like she almost let something slip for a second there. That said, one of the clips appears to show Yoda giving Ahsoka her padawan beads, so presumably one of the stories takes place right before she's sent off to Christophsis. I doubt that's the one she was referring to, but it does indicate that these aren't necessarily all disposable little stories and that they will cover some significant moments.

About what I expected. A nice little vignette that fits neatly into established events but still manages to tell it's own story.
Seems like the point here is to highlight Rey's fundamentally compassionate instincts and generous nature. Which, for someone forced to scratchy out a living as a scavenger since childhood is all the more impressive.

I love that she feeds the nightwatcher worm a piece of junk after reaching safety. No hard feelings!

Very nice. Do we know how often episodes will be released?
I was wondering that myself. A quick search shows that io9's article with the trailer says every day at 10 a.m. PST.

This article on io9 claims there's going to be a TV special on The Disney Channel on Sunday, presumably compiling several of the shorts, but it isn't listed on the cable schedules.

Especially when one considers that piece of junk could potentially have fed her (indirectly) for a day or two. That's not just magnanimity, it's outright charitable.

Mind you, Anakin started out pretty much the same way...hmm..

I'm curious about the metabolism and biochemistry of an organism that can digest metal and plastic and derive sustenance from them. I guess R2-D2's lucky the swamp creatures on Dagobah don't have that kind of digestive system.

^Evolved? In 29 years? Unless evolution works very differently on Jakku, they'd need remarkably short lifespans to evolve that quickly.

Enjoyable. I look forward to more. Though I'm wondering how Rey's staff didn't break when it was in the nightcrawler's jaws?

The creature could have been an old Sith experiment they left behind. That could have been thousands of years ago.

Good to hear Rey's theme again.

First off: always remember it's space fantasy, not science fiction. Secondly, there's plenty of precedent for this kind of thing going all the way back to the dianoga in ANH and the mynocks & space slug in tESB.

The way I look at it, there's been large scale space travel in this galaxy for at least 25,000 years (probably a lot longer) as well as planetary scale cities and probably planet scale factories too out there somewhere. It's not hard to imagine a scenario where such creatures would arise. Maybe some naturally evolved in a heavy metal rich environment and when the miners and refineries came to their world, they thrived. Maybe originally some were genetically engineered as a way of dealing with waste products.
Who knows? The truth may be long lost in the distant past and honestly, nobody really cares to find out.

Either way, their spores/eggs/whatever would have hitched a ride on freighters which in turn would inadvertently spread them all across the galaxy, just as real world trade ships supposedly spread rats, domestic cats and the like all across the globe.

That's one of the unique things about the Star Wars galaxy, it's not a vast empty place full of unknowns and unexplored worlds because almost everywhere you go, someone else has already been there and probably left behind litter. It may have been thousands of years ago and long forgotten, but the ground has been trodden nonetheless. In that sense it's very reminiscent of Tolkien's Middle Earth where you can't walk more than a few days without running into one ruin or another and even the open wastes were the sites of ancient battles and the depths of the ocean home to sunken kingdoms.
