New Animated Series

I read something a while back about a new animated trek show that was in the works but ended up being shelved for now. Personally, I would love to see a CG animated show similar to the Star Wars: Clone Wars show coming out this year. I don't know a lot about producing TV shows, but obviously TPTB don't want to make a new Star Trek show right now after the failure of Enterprise. However I would assume that doing animation is a lot cheaper and thus less risky than live action. So, assuming clone wars does well, I wonder if TPTB would consider going forward with an animated star trek?

At this point the only TV-based Trek project that I would have any interest in would be an animated series.

Well, I like that theme song a lot. Don't know why people seem to dislike it so much. To me it really sounds like "going boldly where no man has gone before".

This is the third time now that I've told you to stop pimping your websites.

If you want us to read your fan fiction, post it in the appropriate forum. If you want to plug your website, do it in the Websites forum. You can even link to it in your signature. But stop promoting it every time you post here.

One warning for spamming. PM me if you want to discuss it.

I'm kind of ambivalent about an animated Trek series. A CGI-one would definitely work nicely and with spaceship shots would be pretty much the same as if it was a live-action series with today's technology.

And, um, I know I'm probably going to stir some s:censored:t with this, but if there was a 2D series, I'd love to see it as an anime (perhaps something more closer in the line of Robotech than Pokemon) with an unapologetically fanboyish Enterprise. Such a series would only be about 24 half-hour episodes and definitely not be in continuity with anything else. I think it's one way to get younger audiences into Trek in general...

I don;t think an anime Trek is a bad idea. I watched the anime Highlander film recently and loved what they did with it.

I would settle for a full-out CGI remake of the existing animated series.

I mean, however good the actual storylines of TAS are (and at times, they are good), the actual show itself is typical of early 70's cartoons: Cheap crap.

A CGI remake of TAS would even get to keep the existing voice tracks (and possibly sound effects), so no dialogue would have to be rerecorded. And it could be made to look more like TOS - we have the technology right now to make fully realistic CGI representations of people, although CGI-TAS might not want to be quite *that* realistic.

We have the technology. We can make it better, faster, stronger then ever before!

*Cue bionic woman theme*

Oh, wait... we're talking about trek huh?

Yeah, um, I don't think animated would be a bad idea, anime or not, just as long as it's not as bad as stargates animated clone. That one was so horrid I've erased the name from my memory...

I'd much prefer an CGI series with new stories.
If you did a TOS animated you'd have to get some voice actors to imitate the actors. Otherwise you'd have to do one based on one of the other shows.

People,

I like the idea of the proposed new animated Trek taking place further in the future, with a "fallen Federation" as the background for the series, as indicated in the link above.

I like that idea, but if not, I would like to see the TOS characters in an animated series -- maybe even set it after TMP, and finally have the second five-year mission fanon believes in.

I was under the impression that the movies were the second 5 year mission, hence the need for the refit in TMP. I mean Kirk even got promoted off the enterprise in between the end of TOS and TMP, with commander decker going to be placed in command had V'Ger not given Starfleet a reason to put Kirk back in his chair.
