new AMC space sci fi series?

Nothing wrong with Contact.

Other than that it was pretentious, pedantic and anticlimactic, no, nothing wrong at all.

LOL; I found Contact to feel almost depressingly realistic in how the world at large, the government, the business, and the mainstream scientific community would treat someone seriously searching for intelligence in the universe. And the circus that arose after contact, including the religious angle, was again, all too realistic.

If the fact that it took a crap on the world's typical stupidity and short sightedness was pretentious, then oh well.

And don't tell me you're one of the people who was angry that "the alien was her daddy, SO STOOPID!". I found the ending fairly intense and moving. Especially the kangaroo court scene.

Wasn't there another TV show about aliens living on Earth? Not Alien Nation or one of those conspiracy/look like us shows. I remember flicking through the channels one night and seeing a show where the aliens were overt, non-warlike, humanoid but definitely not human and could manipulate humans somehow. I saw enough to know they had some kind of agenda. It was the one and only time I saw it though.

Earth: Final Conflict? Never watched it 'though.

I'm looking forward to this new series but unfortunately with a few exceptions high concept sci fi usually means ratings suicide.:sigh:
Mostly that's happened on broadcast. AMC is basic cable and the rules are different there. As long as it doesn't try our patient like Caprica did, I think it'll have some leeway to be intelligent and not terribly fast paced.

In addition to Contact, this series also reminds me alot of a decent Charlie Sheen movie from 1996 called The Arrival. WINNING!
Veering back to V, that gives me an idea: if that series does get another season, they can salvage the ratings by casting Charlie Sheen as the head honcho of all the V's (there's gotta be more back home, right?) and Anna's boss, who makes her look stable by comparison.
