New 4th Doctor Action Figure w/TARDIS

I saw this pop up aswel from the UK forbidden planet site.

Looks cool, but i already have that exact same figure that i bought with a Five figure in a buy one get one half price offer in a Tesco store last year, crazy that as they are now on Ebay in excess of nearly £30.:)

I would get one, but i cant afford it unless i re-mortgage my house.

This is getting silly. They could produce any number of alternate costumed figures or whatever. But this sudden TARDIS-bundling they're doing with the 7th and 4th Doctors is too much. I can see Syl, because at least he's different. But, this is the third time they've released the same Tom Baker figure. No way I'm buying another one, just for that fugly TARDIS. I'll take the Syl one...

Thats why i have all my Doctors around the flight control Tardis they originally released. Looks the same pretty much.

This all reminds me of the Simpsons episode where Lisa designs a new doll, and they all go mad until the dollar hungry corporate giant toy maker releases a new Malibu Stacey doll with a 'New Hat'

Is it just me, or does the Police Box sign along the top of that TARDIS look like it's from the RTD/Moff TARDIS? Or did the lettering actually look that way back in Four's era?

From the promo picks, the Doctor figure is just one they wlready had.
The TARDIS is an accurate(-ish) relicla of the flat roofed policebook they used in season 13 before the oriinal, much miss-treated, police box finally fell apart while shooting Seeds of Doom at the end of season 13.

I'm getting sick of the overpriced Forbidden Planet exclusives. The original run of classic figures by Character Options were sold at FP and both Argos and Toys R Us. They've pretty much all sold out which means there must be some sort of demand for them, so why can't they produce higher quantities for less. OK, Argos an Toys R Us may not be the best outlet for such niche toys but it is getting silly now!!

Here's a couple of questions: Who are Underground Toys? Do they manufacture or just distribute? Are the 7th Doctor figures official (i.e by Character Options)?

Anyway, I wish they'd do the 4th Doctor in his grey coat etc. (Horror of Fang Rock) or his Sherlock Holmes outfit (Talons of Weng-Chiang). Oh, and a bag of jelly babies!

Also, they need to give the 5th Doctor his celery back.

And where's the 8th Doctor?

10th in a tux?

Cowboy or Roman 1st Doctor?

Now I'm getting silly!!!

I'm probably going to skip this one. I already have the new series Tardis and I've pre-ordered the McCoy figure/Tardis. This is simply a variant of the Tardis, mainly the flat roof and a minor repaint of the the Fourth that's already been released twice, the original single figure and again in a four figure set.

If it was Tom in his grey tweed or the burgundy coat and scarf, then I'd be interested.

This. :techman:

I always thought the TARDIS was roughly the same size and shape with minor variations in colour. Guess I was wrong. Here is the history of the TARDIS prop:

Beat me to it. The Baker TARDIS is my least favorite of the bunch because it seems so (ironically) cramped compared to the others.

Funny how many (including myself, initially and admittedly) thought the RTD TARDIS looked bloated and too tall, when it was in actuality closer to the dimensions of a real police box than the other TARDISes ever were!

That Tom Baker TARDIS looks like a badly modified Flight Control one. If you look at the base it's identical to it and it's the same color plastic with a wood grain texture. Also the Newbery TARDIS prop didn't have a flat roof it had a slight pitch to it and the beacon was white not blue.

Has anybody here ever ordered from Forbidden Planet? I've been trying in vain to find a "Fourth Doctor from Pyramids of Mars" figure and can't seem to locate one anywhere else - is their service any good? and do they ship outside the UK?

They do ship overseas and their service is utterly horrid. They've no regard for international customers.

I ordered four figures from them once. It took so long to process the order that by the time they did, one of the figures was sold out with no new ETA.

Then... they shipped me two figures but billed me for three.

My advice is only deal with them if desperate. And try to hook yourself up with a friend in the UK. That's how I got my PoM Tom. And a quick note on that figure:

Only one head (the manic grin) and only the front side of the scarf is painted. For reasons unknown, the back was left plain white.

Maybe they will, maybe they won't. They have horrible customer service. You'll be lucky if you ever get what you pay for. In the US, your card isn't charged until the item ships. With Forbidden Planet, it's charged whenever they feel like it. Also, for reasons known only to them, they are easily hacked, and their credit card numbers have been stolen repeatedly. I know this from personal experience. I will never order from them again, and I'd urge you to reconsider doing anything more than browsing their website.

Hmmmm...thanks for the advice, guys. I do have some friends in the UK, so I think I'll see if I can enlist their aid - otherwise it sounds way too risky. Also: only the front side of the scarf is painted?? What, were they running low on paint?!? :)
