Many years ago I ran a thread called Never seen TOS scenes that explored parts of Star Trek we never got to see. These were photoshopped images of events or things that happened offscreen or in TOS prehistory yet presented as if they had actually been filmed back in the day but then lost or forgotten. This was quite sometime before TOS-R was made so the concept was somewhat similar only my intent was for the images to appear as they had been created back in the day, but sometimes with the conceit that a bit more time and money were available.
The images were usually done to remain consistent with what TOS had already established, but sometimes I would conjure up something strictly for fun for the sake of absurdity and off-the-wall humour.
I thought it could be fun again to revisit this idea and so here we are.
So to start off here is something lifted from another subject I'm pursuing in another forum section. It's based on the idea of, What if TAS episodes had actually been filmed live-action?
"Beyond The Farthest Star."

It is conceivable that a physical version of the alien pod ship seen in the animated episode could have been constructed for a live-action episode. It mightn't have been quite as elaborate as the animated version, but it still could have looked quite alien and just as massive as the Fesarius or the doomsday machine relative to the Enterprise. The real challenge would have been the alien ship's interior which might have dictated the use of a matte painting along with a few set pieces. A live-action version of the story might have had the crew using space suits rather than life support belts and they likely would have beamed directly into the alien ship rather than onto the exterior hull to cut down on f/x shots.
Note: because I do not yet have a 3D model of the TOS Enterprise I used my conjectural refit model as a substitute to get the idea across. I then desaturated the colours and added a touch of film grain to make the images look a bit more like DVD sceencaps.
