Never seen TOS scenes, but would've been nice...

Now im the opposite. I'd hate to see this done to TOS.

Yet the odd thing is, i can look at pictures like the ones above and love them, yet i would hate it if someone went and changed a whole load of stuff.

But i love changing pictures to what i wouldve liked to see.

I, too, would be leary of someone attempting this without respect and a measure of restraint. I do it here because it gives me a sense of what the "real" Enterprise could look like but they could never afford to show.

Re: Never seen TOS scenes, but would've been nice.

Its something to do with imagination with me. I prefere to imagine what would be behind a window or on a viewer rather than being shown/told what is there.

It means more than actually seeing it, to me it does anyway.

Re: Never seen TOS scenes, but would've been nice.

In keeping with the idea that the shuttlecraft should always have been a bit bigger on the outside to accomodate the fullsize interior, it's been ascertained that the interior mock-up was actually too narrow to be consistent with the proportions of the exterior mock-up. Here I've tried to widen the interior by about 10% to be somewhat more consistent with the exterior proportions.

Returning to the Enterprise...

Not quite the same. Here inside the galaxy, we're looking out thru a lot of dust and stuff, especially along the plane of the ecliptic. Once out past the "edge", that matter would be behind us and the view would be a bit more sharp.

Anybody else reflecting on the fact that guys who are more or less amateur hobbyists are doing better effects shots on their desktop computers now than were being done by the production company when TOS was being made?

That's hardly a fair comparison, although flattering. You can imagine what they could have done if they'd had modern PCs at hand back in their day.

That's sorta what I meant. Thinking about how far the technology has come, not casting aspersions on a TV studio from 40 years ago.

Ah, Warped9 you've gone and inspired me now... I had to try it too

God help you all if I were put in charge of a special edition ep.

This is the kind of changes you'd get.

You all get two thumbs up with all of this. I like it!

Where's the NX on that wall?

J/K I actually wondered that till I noticed who posted it and remembered the earlier posts about your feelings on the NX-01. I couldn't resist the bait though. :)

Oops!

From TAS' "Mudd's Passion." After managing to escape from the Enterprise with Nurse Chapel as a hostage Harry Mudd soon realizes he has made a poor choice of landing site...

Re: Never seen TOS scenes, but would've been nice.

excellent shots, especially the Mudd scene and the shuttle approach, (one extra plus for the tilt)

... hmm, maybe I should try to compile such a shot too!

I'm lovin' it.

Ok, a couple more.

Ok, remember 'The Enterprise Incedent' well, the image below is of the Enterprise Court Room, although its the same standing set as the briefing room, ships theatre i envision a stand alone court room for star ships, so, here it is.
Court_room.jpg

This is just a cap from Space Seed, at the end of the episode...

D-7-approach.jpg

Now this a scene i envisioned where we get a view out of one of the front windows of the ship where the Romulan/Klingon cruisers de-cloak infront of the Enterprise.

The way i see it is this is an extra scene just put in there where we get a 'Ships-eye-view' of a de-cloak.

Its just a little scene in an empty room showing the ship on red alert while a klingon/romulan cruiser is de-cloaking, where there is no action or anything, just a simple little shot.

I have also put the ship on red alert, as you can see. :D

D-7-approach-inverted.jpg

Now, this is just a simple inverted version of the one above. I have inverted it for the following reason; This set was one of the many sets built that could only be shot from one or just a select few angles, so all we got was the scenes shot in the same angle facing the same way in every episode the set was used in.
Now by simply inverting the image, it looks like a completly different set to most regular TOS viewers.

Re: Never seen TOS scenes, but would've been nice.

^^ Neat. But I think the crew would be shitting bricks if the Klingons or Roms were allowed to get that close!

LOL, i know.

Thats the only TOS shot i could find of a cruiser, besides as i shrunk the image it bacme less and less recognisable.

Afterall, were only playing with scenee, bitta harmless fun.

Unless your the Enterprise crew, that is.

Re: Never seen TOS scenes, but would've been nice.

This is just fantastic work. Honestly, using this as an example, I wouldnt mind seeing someone eventually "updating" TOS. YOu have show a very nice and elegant way of doing so that does not marr the orignal

Yep. And it was menat for fun as well as an example of how it could be done as opposed to trying to make it look like today's Trek. You can try explaining how you'd like it done untill you're blue in the face, but a handful of actual examples speaks much more clearly.

:)

There's a bit of trial-and error involved too. I've tried things that don't work out, some of which I posted anyway, but overall I try to post the works I think come off best. I've got some other ideas in mind that I'm anxious to tackle so we'll say what comes up.

Re: Never seen TOS scenes, but would've been nice.

^^ I agrree, but then I did just kind of throw this together. And the background pics are really a bit too large for my liking. Also this isn't the best shot for what I wanted to do here and so I'll be trying again.

I've been making notes and there are about three dozen pics I hope to get around to doing.
