News Netflix to buy Warner Brothers

Yeah, these are the guys folks were rooting for, to win the bidding war for Warner Bros...

Regardless of the topic, since Dan Lin took over, Netflix has started producing low- or mid-budget films with good scripts. So far, only producers like Millie Bobby Brown, Adam Sandler, and David Fincher, who have worked with Netflix for years, are spending a lot of money on their projects. Besides them, Narina is spending a lot of money. A few years ago, they released a mid-budget French shark film with quality French actors that was above a certain standard compared to the shark films made for TV or DVD in the US.

I'm deeply concerned about the erosion of American journalism. But 60 Minutes has been sensationalistic tabloid junk for decades. I stopped watching it sometime in the 1980s for that reason. Holding up 60 Minutes as something we should be concerned about losing is a symptom of how far the erosion of news media has gone already, not really something we should be alarmed about for its own merits. A stroll through the list of controversies in the Wikipedia article on them, before posting, does not move the needle one millimeter on my opinion. It's a pretty inexcusable list of unforced consequential errors for any organization that would set a standard of journalism.

Exactly so.

People decrying the "destruction of the House of Murrow" are mourning a ghost of the 20th Century.

The "sin" of CBS News that's likely of most concern to the new owners, no matter how conservative* they may be, is that no one watches it.

*As most media owners are.

When Colbert hosted the local public access show Only in Monroe the day after The Late Show ended, CBS/Paramount had the show temporarily blocked and pulled on YouTube because they said Colbert and the public access channel violated some obscure copyright.

Funny because NBC says otherwise:
A CBS spokesperson said in a statement that the “Only in Monroe” episode featuring Colbert was “financed and produced by CBS Studios and was posted on Stephen Colbert’s YouTube channel in collaboration with Monroe Community Media and ‘The Late Show’s’ YouTube channels.”

NPR has the same statement but also adds:
In a statement to NPR on Monday, CBS said that Colbert's "Only In Monroe" episode was "financed and produced by CBS studios" and was approved for distribution on only three Youtube channels: The Late Show, Monroe Community Media and Colbert's personal channel.
