I watched the first few episodes--I think I'll watch the rest of the season now.

Aml Ameen who plays Capheus left the production part-way through season 2's filming and has been recast.

^Well that has all the hallmarks of a behinds-the-scenes drama. Generally people don't exit a show like that unless something rather drastic has happened.

That's a great shame. Van Damme was one of the more relatable characters and I think most of that was down to the actors' input of wonderfully infectious charm. Given how deep they were into production I guess they had no option but to recast.

Given it started on the table reads, I immediately begin wondering if there was a character move/plot point that he took umbridge with and it ended with arguing and poor performance out in production-land.

Wild speculation is FUN! I think I'm finally getting the hand over this BBS thing!

Given how deep they were into production I guess they had no option but to recast.

Not too terribly far in when you remember that they shoot by location rather than by episode. It seemed like they mostly got holiday footage in Berlin and then went on to Mumbai - in mid-January. So it would seem that it happened fairly early but we've only just heard of it. If Capheus had scenes that must be shown, they can probably use back shots and dub his dialogue.

No telling why it happened but it seems that Toby's been welcomed by the cast. And he's got a smile that's pretty close to being as glowing as 'Van Damme's'.
