Nero's fate -spoilers-

He went back into the black hole?

Um no.
It was pretty clear that the black whole was tearing the Narada apart.
And on top of that the Enterprise was firing at it.

Kirk even tells him his only hope to survive is to beam him on the Enterprise.

Nero is gone, dead.

I disagree, it was tearing it apart but it didn't show Nero dying or accepting death. Don't see why they couldn't bring him back if they wanted to.

Ok...
A black whole formed inside his ship, tearing it apart. The Enterprise was beating the shit out of it....

But he's alive. Sure. As you wish I suppose.
Nothing on this board surprises me anymore :vulcan:

The whole premise of the film is that they went into a black hole to time travel.

it felt like they kept his death ambigous to me.

Of course he's dead. But that's Nero from the old timeline. There could still be a Nero in the new timeline, who learns what happened to his other self, and goes back in time to seek revenge.

Heck, you could have each movie in the series represent a new attempt by a new version of Nero to go back and "fix things" from his perspective. It'd be just like the Terminator movies. ;)

Don't see why he is dead, he is about as dead as before he came through the black hole. They never showed him dying bar him ship getting sucked in,

That's how I saw it to. It looks like Nero is dead, but since they used the black hole time machine to kill him they have a "believable" way to bring the character back.

I certainly hope that when they make 'Star Trek 3' (or whatever it would be called) and wrap up the trilogy they pull a reset which restore Vulcan and the original timeline, to shut all the pedants the hell up.

I guess he could have been sucked in and brought to another time not unlike what happened to the Enterprise-C. But I truly believe they intended to be clear that Nero is dead.

I think they tried to leave it ambiguous enough to have him maybe come back at some point later. But I would like it better if the next movie is against the Klingons.

First of all - we didn't see him die.

Second of all - That ship was modified with BORG technology that can repair itself (unlikely in the situation but not impossible)

Third of all - that ship has no shuttles? no escape pods?

Why couldn't he beam himself aboard the Enterprise? After all they never said their transporters were not working.

It was ambiguous and sure if he just got sucked through he is probably dead in another time but the truth is he could well have survived... this is Star Trek after all.

No one is really dead ... EVER! (except Kirk apparently).

Just on a side note and I am sure this has been mentioned a million times specially at the time Generations was released BUT I was watching TFF yesterday and Kirk says that he will "die alone" and then he goes and dies along in Generations... when I heard that line it was almost reflective and gave it more meaning.

Really? In the movie I didn't even hear a hint that it was anything but a Romulan mining vessel.

It would be interesting if Nero came back in a non-villain role. Maybe he accepts what he did was terrible and comes back to live in the time line he ruined in an attempt to repent. I don't think I'd want him back as a villain; there wasn't that much depth to him the first time around. If they could find a creative way of doing that and bringing the character forward I'd be fine with it.

If Nero did survive than he got to be sooo f**ked-up that he's a natural candidate for ENTERPRISEs' Future Guy...
