Nero wanted to destroy the Federation right?

When Nero was atacking Starfleet HQ why didn't he launch his missiles all across earths major cities just in case he failed in destroying earth? A scorched earth policy so to speak. That's what I would have done anyway.

... because he was a stupid, one dimensional villain who's motivation didn't make any sense at all.

Scorched earth is still earth. Nero wanted a life free of the Federation. Just take a look at the Vulcans: even with destruction of their planet, they intend to rebuild. Complete obliteration of the planet is the least he needs to do. Burning cities isn't going to accomplish a Federation-free Romulus.

Nero's missiles didn't seem to carry enough punch to destroy an entire city, much less scorch the Earth.

He might've set a shitload of rocks from the asteroid belt on collision courses once the defense grid was down, but that would've taken time, they could've been intercepted, and he thought he had his drill attack in the bag.

Well, if he failed he'd be dead. It's not really an eventuality I'd want to concern myself with, either.

The whole red matter thing was silly anyway. Even the TOS Enterprise was capable of carrying out 'General Order 24', which was to eradicate all life on a planet. I think they should have just established that the Narada was sufficiently badass to carry out the task with its regular armaments.

Well, it was originally a mining vessel. Perhaps its weapons were simple mining charges upgraded by Borg-tech to pass through shields, rather than high-yield munitions like photon torpedoes.

Why waste missiles when you have the ultimate weapon. We also have no idea about his remaining armament and there are other Federation worlds to destroy.

Nero wanted 2 destroy earth the same way has he did with vulcan with red matter . !!

Asked and answered AFAIK
What I'm saying is Just in case he failed in destroing earth with the red matter, he should have fired a cupple of missiles (while he was digging) to do as much damage as possible.
...except that his missiles didn't have enough explosive yield combined to level Muskegon, much less devastate the Earth's surface.

Why didn't his 'motivation' make sense? He wants a Federation free future. So he destroys the founding worlds of the Federation. Seems to make sense so far...

I agree. I admit at first viewing a lot of it passed me by and I was left with "red matter? What the?" as my impression of Nero, but for all that we don't see much of him, there is a lot to his story in the movie and it does make sense.

Right, and just in case they failed to level Hiroshima with the Atomic Bomb due to a detonation failure, the guys aboard the Enola Gay should have fired their service pistols at Hiroshima to insure that they inflicted some damage. That only makes sense, right?

Yeah, it seems kind of pointless to have missiles when you've already got the supposed ultimate damn doomsday weapon.

I guess, if you wanted to cover your bases?
