Nero=Uglier Shinzon. Discuss

The press photos look awesome all around, in my opinion. I'm very excited about the film now.

However the villain, Nero, is seriously giving me Nemesis flashbacks.

The problem with Nemesis was probably not the general production design of the film, though. The sets and costume designs were fine, but the issue was the weak directing and editing. If Abrams can pull off the darker Nosferatu style look for the Romulans well, we may be in for a classic villain. What do you think?

I think he looked a lot better in the first shot we saw of him. This si probably not the best angle. Plus I'm not wild about his surroundings - I find the dark, dingy interior to be a little to overtly "eeevil" but admittedly we can't see to much of it.

I'm reserving judgment. We know next to nothing about him as a character, aside from that he's Romulan, probably non-military, and possibly involved in time travel.

I too got a "shinzon" vibe. Which isn't a good thing. I think it's the baldness, combined with the Romulan thing, combined with the pose and angle, combined with that weird staff.
However, I'm willing to accept that it is just that photo, as I have every reason at the moment to trust JJ and team to create a decent villain, and Eric Bana is a far superior actor to Hardy. I believe for now that it will turn out merely to be that both villains are bald and Romulan-related.

On that note, serious thumbs up for getting rid of the Romulan Neanderthal frown.

Well Bana is a far better actor than whoever played Shinzon, hopefully JJ will write him a better character to play and finally I'll wait to see the film and then make such judgments

He looks like the version of Shinzon who isn't a total loser. Or human.

The staff is a wee bit over-the-top though.

Well I'm getting more a General Chang vibe than Shinzon. So what? He's bald. No one batted an eye when a black Vulcan was introduced in VOY, but introduce one folically challenged Romulan and everyone cries Shinzon?? My only hope is that he won't be the stock cardboard cutout Trekian villan we've been subjected to for years. But with Eric Bana in the role, I doubt that's going to happen.

Shinzon

-Evil Clone
-Wears iridiscient vampire outfits
-Tries to destroy the Federation for no particular reason, other than being eeevilll
-Easy to make fun of name (IE "Shitzon")

Nero

-Romulan
-Wears space hobo clothes
-Has tatoos
-Motivation as of yet unknown

He doesn't really look Shinzon to me, because the character doesn't have the "Ooo, look at me I'm young and edgy" vibe that Shinzon had, judging from the pics we've seen. Neros' eyes bely a much more calculating mind, and he looks like he might be a rather calm, patient fellow. We'll see, won't we, though?

Considering that it has to do with time travel, there are a billion possibilities. I hope they give him a decent motive, so that he can at least be three-dimensional.

I can see a little bit of the Shizon vibe, but like a lot of other people just said, I think that just comes from the fact that he's a bald Romulan. But I think judging by the kind of villains we've gotten from Abrams in Lost and Alias, Nero should be alot more interesting. Personally, I think he's actually pretty cool looking in the picture, hence my using it as my avatar.
As for the staff, I'm thinking it might some sort of a close combat weapon, because it looks pretty unpleasant to me.

The newly released Nero image backs up the vibe I get from this guy IMO.

Look at him, he's thinking pretty darned hard about something.

("Hmm, where did I leave that photon torpedo-proof fridge?" :p)
