Nemesis on AMC

Well, they gave us Mad Men.

They have to balance karma somehow. ;)

They're helping finance the on-again redo PRISONER miniseries; that will probably offset MAD MEN by itself (and I am a huge huge MAD MEN fan, having seen every ep at least 3 times BEFORE the dvd even came out.)

That series could derail the only decent PRISONER reworking on the boards, the planned feature film, the Christopher Nolan-directed one from the guy who wrote 12 MONKEYS and rewrote BLADE RUNNER (yeah, and wrote LEVIATHAN too.)

I lost all respect for AMC years ago, when I stumbled across a moive that I had previously seen Mike and the robots heckle on MST3K. Oy!

I lost all respect for AMC when they showed Godzilla Vs. Gigan, a film that is neither American nor a Classic.

But anyway, what I do like about AMC is that for their ads, they'll take a pretty good quote from the film and build the ad around that.

Except for Nemesis, they picked a pretty cheesy quote (which maybe says something about the writing in the movie): "Whatever he's after, it isn't peace." Ya think, Jean-Luc?!

Um AMC is not American Movie Classics anymore. They changed their name about three years ago to just AMC. The letters no longer stand for anything.

Seriously? Ugh. Then there's no incentive to even live up to their name.

What sucks most is that they will show great stuff, like The Usual Suspects, The Thing, and Terminator 2, then give us crap like Alien: Resurrection and Nemesis. I mean seriously, it looks like Nemesis was so bad, SciFi passed on it, despite having TNG reruns on Monday and occasionally showing First Contact, along with a stream of crappy "movies".

AMC is like the Holy Roman Empire: they show stuff that isn't American, isn't a movie and certainly isn' classic. Sometimes it fails on all three counts.

Just a decade ago, AMC was the best bargain on cable TV. It was free or "basic" on most systems, and really did show stuff uninterrupted and unedited.

But it turned into garbage almost all at once.

All of the above criticisms are on point; nonetheless, as far as I'm concerned, AMC can run tape loops of barking dogs and crying babies as long as they keep renewing Mad Men...
