Neil Gaiman's American Gods under consideration at HBO

True Blood is a big hit show for them, a much bigger hit in ratings terms than most of the other cable shows you've mentioned there (save The Walking Dead, which is on a par).

Yes, TB is a hit. I was just trying to say how HBO really hasn't had many shows these days. Each of those networks I mentioned has a big hit (Dexter/TWD) and other smaller shows to support the channel. Outside of TB, I can't think of anything for HBO right now.

Well, it seemed to me you were overstating. Plus HBO has a mixture of hits and smaller shows, too (True Blood, Boardwalk Empire, Treme, Big Love has just wrapped up a five-season run, Entourage, Bored to Death, Hung, Eastbound & Down, How to Make It In America, Curb Your Enthusiasm). While they'd no doubt like to further strengthen their line-up and are seeking more shows to draw numbers like True Blood or, even better, The Sopranos, they have comparable strength to any other cable outlet in their current programming.
